Movie Genre Hatred

Thankyou, master. It is no more than I deserve. I have also spelled King Henry with a lower case ‘k’.

Take him to the tower!

And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs’d they were not here, to read this thread.

Miller!

Another one for vampires and zombies. Why the HELL is this crap so popular??

Steve918 you’re a big man but you’re in bad shape. I do this for a living.

Dismissing British gangster films and ignoring Get Carter? You’re eyes are just like I remember. Pissholes in the snow.

Plus, for certain definitions of gangster films, Scum is the Daddy. Where’s your tool?

Although stylized and superficial even Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels had it’s merits although those films it influenced that followed have diluted the attraction.

It’s hard to write off whole genres, as every genre has a t least a few gems with crossover appeal.

I don’t generally like action movies, but I did enjoy the Bourne series. (Well, 2 out of 3.)

Chick flicks.

The utterly unrealistic expectations that they give people, and also as one person mentioned, people have a "princess complex. "

I have a very difficult time watching comedies where every single thing goes wrong with the protagonist. Are We There Yet is a good example, though it is also a very good example of a very bad movie. They get kicked out of the airport so they go to the train station but they miss the train because the boy had to tie his show three steps away from the train’s doors, so they take Ice Cube’s fancy new SUV, what’s the chance of that SUV getting to the destination intact? Look out, that crazy trucker is going to run you off the road!

I couldn’t stand What About Bob until I figured out that I’m not supposed to cheer for the psychiatrist who just wants to take his family on vacation. I got turned around on that and I like it better.

I really like Planes, Trains, and Automobiles so that must be the exception that proves the rule.

Musicals. The idea of people having a normal conversation and then a whole streetful of them breaking into song just makes me gag.

Mostly romance films.

Agreed. However, a filmed opera I have no problem with.

Thanks for reminding me that I missed it. I HATE opera, live, filmed or animatronic.

At the risk of sounding like a humorless scold, I don’t really like comedies. I like TV comedies just fine, but I don’t know if it’s just the kind of sense of humor that a lot of movie comedies have that I don’t share, or what, but…yeah.

I also don’t like romantic comedies. I like drama with romance in it, but anything fluffy (things that used to feature, oh, Meg Ryan, and nowadays feature actors like Jennifer Aniston or Katherine Heigl) just don’t appeal to me.

Chick flicks. Romantic comedies. Perhaps I’m missing the Cute Pink Girly Shoe Shopping Romantic Gene, but I utterly DESPISE them.

I generally don’t like slasher flicks, though Psycho is a Great Film.

I generally don’t like zombie flicks. I prefer my undead with capes, fangs, and Eurotrash accents.

I like vampire flicks, but I hate the ones where the actors wear elaborate facial prosthetic makeup. Christopher Lee was scary with fangs and red eyes. Bela Lugosi was scary with a cape and an accent. It’s not their monstrosity that makes them scary, it’s their humanity.

I love Casino. The first two Godfathers are Great Films. Other than that, I don’t like gangster flicks. I do like some of the parodies, like Get Shorty Payback, and Innocent Blood.

I don’t dislike Westerns, but if I am flipping channels and come across one, I usually keep flipping. There are a handful that are good, but most don’t interest me.

Me too. Mindless gore. Hate it.

“Torture porn” is to the point where I wonder about the sanity of those who enjoy it.

Except for Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera, I agree. Even Sound of Music is just cheesy and boring.

Pretty much anything shown on the Lifetime channel. Ugh.

In my youth, it was sports films…Somehow it always seemed that they cast a non-athlete in the lead role. I must have mellowed since then or they found a couple jocks who could act or something. Since then, I have found a fair number of believable sports films I could enjoy.

Lately, the type of movie that makes me stab at the power button on my remote is the vapid vampire that “cares.” Give me Lon, Bela, or Boris - Now they were monsters you could sink your teeth into.

Torture porn and melodrama are the two genres I avoid at all costs. I find both fairly mindless, almost by definition.
