I see this- I mean, yeah, I “love” that cheeseburger I am about to eat but I dont wanna have sex with it.
Musicals. I can’t stand 'em. I can barely stand it when a Simpsons episode, let alone a film, turns into a musical.
I agree, I am tired of the troubled, romantic vampire.
I also have lost interest in the torture porn and slasher genre. I’d take something like the Monolith Monsters which is a unique idea that Hollywood wouldn’t touch today.
It’s not the wanting to have sex, it’s the loving. A lusty rapey Vampire is okay, but the sensitive, misunderstood ones really … blow.
I can’t get behind hating any vampire genre work on the basis of realism. Vampires are fictional. I can’t see how I can say that Christopher Lee and Max Schreck gave realistic portrayals of vampires but Robert Pattinson and Stephen Moyer are unrealistic as vampires.
I have no problem saying a lot of recent vampire fiction is terrible. But not because of realism issues.
I tend to skip any movie that could be classed as “drama.” If it’s about real people doing real things in the modern world – I’m just not there. Romances, even most comedies.
I’ve never seen a Documentary movie. (TV shows, yes, but never a movie.)
But give me any kind of “genre” and I’m in with a chance. Historical “costume piece” shows? Great! Sci-Fi? My kinda! Most war movies: love 'em! Westerns? Yee-ha! Action/Adventure? Just say, “Bond, James Bond,” and I’m sold.
Oh, yeah, and musicals! Love 'em! Certainly it’s true that you have to suspend disbelief, when people suddenly turn to the camera and start singing… “Paint Your Wagon” is one of the most absurd movies I’ve ever seen! But I don’t care; I adore 'em!
Mafia/US gangster films, for me. Yes, the Godfather series, too. The only ones I like are comedies like Analyze This, My Blue Heaven and Mickey Blue-Eyes
Ironically enough, given the OP, I do have more time for modern UK gangster films - Layer Cake, Snatch, and that one with Samuel L Jackson in a kilt…51st State.
Torture porn/slasher movies, and most of what passes for modern “horror.”
I particularly hate zombies and vampires.
I hate any movie where the primary device for plot advancement is the main characters doing exactly the wrong thing at every possible opportunity. This is endemic to a large percentage of horror movies, and not just the low-budget variety (I’m looking at you, Cloverfield), but also common in rom-coms and “dumb-guy” comedies. It’s just lazy writing.
Romantic comedies and chick flicks. Anything else I’ll watch.
You’ve Been Served types of movies, whether dancing, rapping, drum lines, or cheerleading.
Zombies and vampires and werewolves. Oh, my!
Young adult fiction turned into movies: Hunger Games, Twilight, Divergent, etc.
My Little Pony, Barbie, or Strawberry Shortcake.
Horror.
Slasher / torture porn.
Superheroes. Including gods and goddesses.
Swords and Sorcery, including Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. (Anybody else wonder why LotR, three books, were turned into three movies, but the Hobbit, one single book, was also turned into three movies?)
+1 for Lifetime style movies (it was her husband, it will always be her husband (or boyfriend)).
Anything on the SyFy channel (Know why they changed it from Sci-Fi channel? They never had any sci-fi on it!).
Dang! That’s quite a list. It almost seems like I don’t like any movies. But I do. I like psychological dramas, most comedies (including rom com), science fiction (if it’s done well and has real science in it), documentaries (as long as I’m interested in the subject). I even like some musicals (The Music Man, West Side Story, Moulin Rouge).
