“Gonna Die” movies also suck. You know, the ones where a main character knows he or she is “gonna die.” Hate those.
After reading the OP, I seriously think msmith537 should apply to be a columnist at The Onion. Not an insult, not a compliment, just an observation.
As for the topic I would like to nominate “slow as hell Victorian-era dramas that are nothing but a fashion show for pretentious people.” Y’know, stuff like Topsy Turvy, Sense and Sensibility, A Room with a View, etc. I’ve never seen any of those movies, but they all seem like they fit the genre. Down with lace, brocade, and English accents! Stupid past.
I hate movies that have animals/insects that have been mutated somehow and/or are terrorizing a small town in the middle of nowhere. I’ve seen 8 Legged Freaks, Bats, Anaconda and probably a few others. Didn’t like any of them.
Usally because they’re slasher flicks some gimicky animal to do the killing instead of a scary guy.
The Birds is probably the best in the genre, and even it has it’s downsides.
I agree that movies in this genre suck hard
Except for Tremors, of course.
I actually WANT sucking in my amatuer porn films.
And I would like to add:
Popular Horror Movie, part 2 always sucks.
“Chick flicks” that feature strung-together clichés in place of a plot. I’m a chick, and I can’t believe that I’m supposed to be enjoying that stuff!
I still don’t understand the purpose of the OP. You say later that they suck because the fanbase tends to be overly critical, but then you give your personal feelings on why movies of each genre sucks.
Are you saying that YOU suck?
I was going to say “copycat films” always suck. You know, a movie is released and is a big hit, then a very similar movie is released and it sucks. However I then thought of an exception. After Pulp Fiction was a hit, there was a movie called Two Days in the Valley that was great.
Don’t you mean “…in addition to Total Recall sucking all the other ones suck too?”
Never understood the fascination with that vastly overrated movie…
Like musicals.
Disney post-1964. I know there are exceptions, but pretty much everything animated which follows the “young person rebels against authority, accompanied on his.her quest by two English-speaking animals (one dim, one wise-cracking)” genre.
What, no vote for “Adam Sandler movies” yet?
Right on the top of it’s cute little head.
I take it you don’t like Star Wars, then.
Zombie movies.
Vampire movies.
Lifetime movies with titles like:
Mother Can I Marry A Pedophile Serial Killer?: The Story of Idona Giveadamn
You’ve never seen them, but you know they suck? :dubious:
The term you’re looking for is “costume drama”. I for one LOVE them. I love history, and I love costume history. And I love Jane Austen!
Sense and Sensibility was a VERY well down movie based on Jane Austen’s novel, and everyone I’ve talked to who saw it loved it. What’s not to love about a movie with Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet AND Alan Rickman-who, for once, wasn’t playing the villain? (Although Hugh Grant wasn’t too good, he walked around like he had forgotten to remove the hanger from his coat).
Eh. I felt that Sense and Sensibility missed a lot of the broad satirical humour of the novel but certainly it was more than just a fashion show, and indeed to dismiss “Victorian era” (pssst, S&S isn’t even Victorian) costume dramas as such is to miss a really wide range of films some of which are very good indeed.
I agree. Although I thought it was because Hugh Grant’s shoes were too tight
Just cos people are wearing funny clothes and using more formal language, doesn’t mean there’s not a good plot in there.
