A woman on another board I frequent posted this, and I was hoping all you hip, smart people could help her out.
Can anyone help me? I saw a movie several years ago and I have no idea what it was called. I have wanted to rent it and recommend it to others and I just can not remember the name of it. I describe it to clerks at video stores and they look at me like I have 2 heads. So here goes…
It is about a woman who is a doctor but no one will hire her. Women dr’s were unheard of at that time. She goes to Africa to work with her brother who is a priest. He works in an orphanage I think. She doesn’t believe in God.
She ends up raising a little black boy who we watch grow up in the movie.
She eventually marries and has a daughter. The daughter struggles with her parents dedication to
the orphanage.
The woman gets AIDS and eventually dies of it.
Her daughter becomes a dr and carries on her parents work.
The black boy, now a man, dies during an uprising. He is shot while trying to deliver some medication I think.
Does this sound even vaguely familiar to ANYONE???
It sounds vaguely familiar but for the life of me I can’t think of the title. I’ll give you a bump though and try to jog my memory.

It sure sounds heartwarming and cheerful, I tell you what.
I took the liberty of posting your question on the IMDB board, and one of the experts posited that your movie might be Dr. Lucille (2000) , based on the life of Dr. Lucille Teasdale .

Here’s a more detailed description than IMDB provides, courtesy of New York University’s Medical School. Looks like this is the one!
