Movie map of the U.S.

Missouri: The Outlaw Josey Wales, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Roadhouse, Waiting For Guffman

Oregon: First Blood, Kindergarten Cop

Also “Ride With The Devil”.

The Evil Dead is set in Tennessee? I had no idea. Awesome, in any case.

I knew Oregon would be The Goonies without even looking.

Vemont: The Trouble With Harry, Sweetheart’s Dance, What Lies Beneath, Me, Myself & Irene, Ciderhouse Rules, Funny Farm, Baby Boom, Ethan Frome, The Four Seasons, Where The Rivers Flow North, and Stranger In The Kingdom. All of them better than Super Troopers.

Fight Club would have been a better choice for Delaware. Wayne’s World spends about 15 seconds, and it’s only a blue screen of Delaware.

As much as The Ice Storm sums up CT well, I was hoping for Beetlejuice.

How about Garden State for New Jersey?

Obviously we need 50 poll threads to sort this out. :stuck_out_tongue:

Of course, New York State gets a film about New York City. Everything north of Westchester County might as well be in Canada.

New Mexico: Gas Food Lodging, Natural Born Killers, The Milagro Beanfield War.

It’s okay, but I think that *The Wrestler *would be better; and after a bit of research I’m gonna go with Happiness to represent NJ.

There’s nothing really South Carolina about the movie, though, other than the setting.

I’d say Doc Hollywood for South Carolina.

How about Mystic Pizza for Connecticut?

You are obviously not a Steve.

Vermont - Ghost Story

To represent NJ? I wouldn’t go around saying “Yeah, that movie Happiness…that’s what NJ is all about” (Nor would I say that about Gummoshudder)

Colorado: The Shining

Maryland: The Blair Witch Project

Vermont: I like thesuggestion above of The Trouble with Harry but also Ghost Story

Mississippi: Mississippi Burning

I think I’ve got the perfect Pennsylvania movie.

Slap Shot

Bruce Almighty? Set in Buffalo, as I recall.

Heh, a bit of a joke as far as being representative of the state; it has more to do with that it’s a better movie than anything else set there (imho), except for perhaps Atlantic City. Although On the Waterfront was shot in NJ, I believe that it was set in Brooklyn.

D.C.: Damn Yankees
Ohio: Bye Bye Birdie
Florida: The Cocoanuts
Hawaii: Blue Hawaii, Paradise, Hawaiian Style
Idaho: Sun Valley Serenade
Illinois: Chicago
Indiana: By the Light of the Silvery Moon
Iowa (alternate): State Fair
Maine: It Happened to Jane aka Twinkle and Shine
Minnesota: A Prairie Home Companion
Nevada: When the Boys Meet the Girls
South Carolina: Porgy and Bess
Vermont: White Christmas

There are musicals for states not listed, but I haven’t seen them or I can say that they’re total crap, even well below the standards of the Elvis movies. I have seen all the movies listed above.

Great list!

[OT]Got to meet Archive Guy, who’s in town for a conference, last night. Made me nostalgic for the musicals group.[/OT]

I’m sorry, but in no universe are Me, Myself, and Irene and What Lies Beneath better than Super Troopers.

Also, Me, Myself, and Irene doesn’t take place in VT…IIRC. It was filmed here (well, a bunch of it,) but most of the VT scenes substitute for upstate NY. Why they couldn’t have just filmed ten miles west, across the lake and in actual upstate (well, northern) NY, where the scenery is almost identical, I don’t know.

But I did forget that Funny Farm was set here…and it’s vintage Chevy Chase, so I’ll agree to that being a good VT movie.
