Irene Dunne’s ironic legacy was that her films were so good, nearly all of them were remade, leading to the originals being withdrawn from distribution, so Dunne, once voted the Most Popular Actress by the readers of Photoplay magazine (handily beating Katharine Hepburn, Ingrid Bergman & Bette Davis) is largely forgotten. I realize A Guy Named Joe isn’t an example, Always being remade so much later-- just taking the opportunity to plug my favorite Golden Age actress.
