Movie Recommendation: "In the Loop"

Apologies if this has already been mentioned; the Board’s search utility is not the most effective I’ve ever used.

Anyway, I’m posting to recommend seeing the indie-movie, “In the Loop.” It’s a satire of the political build-up to the Second Gulf War, with very good performances and some of the most inspired use of profanity since R. Lee Ermey’s Gunnery Sergeant Hartmann. The movie is a spin-off of Armando Ianucci’s BBC TV dramedy “The Thick of It,” which I gather is akin to a cross between “Yes, Minister” and “The Office.” Supposedly, the series is available on YouTube as well.

There are oodles of reviews around to google; I’m just making the recommendation to go see it soon, as it will no doubt be gone from theaters quickly like many indies. (E.g. “Moon”, which I still haven’t seen. Oh well, that’s why there’s Netflix.)

One serious minus is that it’s shot in that psuedo-verite shakey-cam manner. I nearly got motion sick during parts. (Which is needless. I understand shakey-cam in action/war movies, where the director is trying to simulate adrenaline dumping on one’s senses, but for a political satire?) As most of the joys of this movie are in the dialogue, watching it with your eyes closed doesn’t deprive you of much. I’ll be very disappointed if the screenplay isn’t nominated for an Oscar.

The Thick of It has some of the finest swearing this side of Deadwood. Swearing as an art form.

“I don’t give a fuck. Oh, I’m sorry F Star Star CUNT!”

How does it compare to “The Thick of It” for the pacing? Stretching 45 minutes into a full length movie can be a tricky transition.
