Movie recommendations, bring the funny

Sorry, bad memory on my part. But it still shows how great all three films were.

Thank you- my bad !!

I’m surprised no one has mentioned “Network”!! Hell, the entire Fox network was based on that movie!

My favorite comedies (that I can think of right now) have already been mentioned, but you might want to look for The Birdcage, which was an American remake of the very funny foreign film La Cage aux Folles.

You might also like L.A. Story.
I’m not generally a fan of Steve Martin movies, but this one has a lot of subtle little gags, For instance, one scene takes place in front of a resort(?) with it’s name on a big sign. It’s Pollo Del Mar.

Hell, for funny Steve Martin movies (I am a fan) try Roxanne. Or Three Amigos.

Other good Steve Martin movies include Little Shop of Horrors and Planes, Trains & Automobiles.

and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels with Michael Caine and Glenne Headly (RIP :()

What about the Monty Python moves.

But how about unintentionally funny? A clear winner here is Battlefield Earth.

This is a really different take on heist / gangster movies: Lock, stock and two smoking barrels. The two dorky hitmen outdo even the guy in Fargo.

Tine Bandits

Traveling to another dimension from a bedroom - yes, the* Chronicles of Narnia* series. Another candidate for unintentionally funny.

And more for time travel: the French film Les visiteurs about two men who get transported from the Middle Ages to the modern world. The Hollywood remake Just visiting wasn’t bad, but not as good.

I watched Peter Sellers’s The Party with two other people. I have never heard three people laugh so loud.

Steve Martin should have gotten an Oscar for All Of Me.

Could not agree more.

It was one of those wonderful situations where art imitated life because he was busy falling in love with Victoria Tennant during the filming of that movie.

Pretty much identical to what happened with Malcolm McDowell and Mary Steenburgen in “Time After Time”.

His level of cerebral articulate humor is a real gift in frequently overlooked by situations like the Oscars.

Steve Martin deserved an Oscar for this movie? I didn’t even remember he was IN this movie until right now. Lily Tomlin was the standout here.

Did Tomlin need to do the physical comedy of pretending her body was half under the control of a member of the opposite sex?

The great acting performance in that movie was absolutely Steve Martin’s.

Trivia: the only other acting credit for the woman with the ping pong balls is an arch-nemesis in a children’s movie!

It was Long’s first movie.

Actually, a Google search of the IMDB tells me that I’m correct (has “handjob” ever really been considered the polite version of “blowjob”?). The sanitized television version used the euphemism “special attention.”

I also know that I saw the original version, because I remember the boss’s reaction to the movie ad that you had spoliered:

“How the fuck did the work fuck end up in the New York Fucking Times?”

Also:
Sony. Because Caucasians are too damn tall.

Ah, yes, the disgruntled cab driver.
I like to quote the disillusioned rock star when something irritates or annoys me: “Fuck happy.”

The first time I watched All of Me, for a second my brain actually wondered “How did they get Lily Tomlin into Steve Martin’s body?” THAT is how good he was.

Comedy is highly subjective. I don’t find most of the films listed “laugh-out-loud” funny, or, in some cases, funny at all.

Here’s my list:

A Night at the Opera – can’t go wrong with the Marx Brothers. This is my favorite of theirs (which makes me a Philistine in some eyes)

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum

What’s Up, Doc – don’t tell me it’s “just a remake of Bringing Up Baby”. It isn’t. And I like it better

Kentucky Fried Movie, Airplane, Top Secret! and the first Naked Gun movie. I also loved airplane 2, even though it wasn’t by Zucker. Zucker, and Abraham

And Now for Something Completely Different and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. (I have to admit I’m not a huge fan of the rest of the Pythoin troupe’s other cinematic outings0

The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra and The Lost Skeleton Returns Again

The Producers, The Twelve Chairs, Young Frankenstein and SpaceBalls by Mel Brooks

I’ll also agree with Shaun of the Dead and especially Hot Fuzz!, but I didn’t care for The World’s End (although, to make up for it, I loved Paul)

If it’s belly laughs you want: Amazon Women on the Moon.
