Movie Remakes are now officially out of control!

Drivers’ ed films?
Anti-vegan films staring Troy McClure?
Triumph of the Will?*

I think I get soulmurk’s point. The story has been told in film, TV, not to metion the original medium, comics, several times. I don’t agree, but I think I get it.

*Tongue in cheek. IANANazi.

“Yours, MIne, and Ours” probably wouldn’t be so bad if they kept to the book Who Gets the Drumstick?, and did it straight. There was humor enough in the book. But the original movie made it look like the two families of children were completely at odds, when that just wasn’t so. I thoroughly disliked the original movie, and won’t see the remake.

That’s not true. A ton of directors, writers and producers have been trying to get this movie for about 10 years. Work on this movie started way before he died. In fact, 10 years ago was about the time of his accident.

Well, there is new stuff being done, but it gets no distribution.

It might be easier to answer that by providing an unnecessary film for antonymous contrast: The Honeymooners. In other words, a necessary film would be one that wasn’t unnecessary by virtue of being devoid of any value.

It’s my opinion that the Batman movie didn’t really add anything to the franchise. It was a decent movie, but as Wolfian gets, but disagrees with, it’s all been done to death.

In the end, I paid to see it and I didn’t leave the theater comparing the producers and director’s intelligence to that of a sack of wet hampsters, so it couldn’t have been all bad.

Marley23, be that as it may, it’ll take more than that to convince the cynic in me. I offer that we wait until the ad campaign to see if they use his name to try and sell it.

I will give you that it’d be a fair argument that they’re doing it now because of the recent success (monetarily at least) of so many other comic-turned-movies. Though that rates only slighter higher in my book than riding the name of the deceased for a buck.

foolsguinea, you are of course correct. Didn’t mean to insinuate there weren’t, merely that it seems like the only movies anyone is willing to make anymore are unimaginative and soulless. It’s a shame really that they’ll pump millions into hyping a bad movie, while the few good ones slide under the radar.

This doesn’t really solve the problem. It’s easy to point to a movie and say it’s unnecessary

Eh. I’m not interested in it anyway, but I have trouble believing they’ll use his name to sell the movie. I think many people may remember him as a disabled rights advocate instead of Superman at this point.

The sad fact is that most movies are so expensive to make that it seems producers won’t put up the money unless they have something with a built-in audience. I remember someone posting here that almost nothing makes money in the theatre anymore, and that the theatrical run is practically just an ad to they can sell the DVD. This applies to remakes and adaptations, and also to celebrity biopics and such. It’s a moronic and self-perpetuating system, but I didn’t do it.

Agreed. Was just my opinion to begin with. One man’s trash and all.

Dodgeball.

Piffle. When they remake Birth of a Nation—THAT’ll be when it’s all out of control.

That or Berman-Braga’s Star Trek V: The Special Edition. (Totally remastered, with Tribbles digitally added, the Caitian stripper edited out to make it more “family friendly,” and the Enterprise now gets destroyed, but restored via time travel. Then destroyed again.)

Miami Vice…with Colin Farrel as Sonny Crockett and Jamie Foxx as Rico Tubbs.

On the contrary – it was vitally necessary that that Schumacher… thing… not be permitted to stand any longer as Batman’s last cinematic adventure.

Starring Johnny Depp as “The Master” and Roberto Benigni as Torgo!

The day someone announces a remake of Logan’s Run…THAT’S the day movie remakes are officially out of control.

Yeah, I hope that never happens

They already did. Bryan Singer was all set to direct it, but he chose to make Superman Returns instead, so the Logan’s Run remake is shelved for now.

Well, thank Og for that. There’s still hope as far as I’m concerned, as long as that movie never actually gets made.

(I swear I didn’t know they were actually considering remaking this BTW…I just tried to think of the most pointless remake I could possibly come up with)

According to Wile E’s link:

Adam McKay, a former Saturday Night Live writer who directed Ferrell in Anchorman, is attached to direct, with Chris Henchy and Dennis McNicholas signing on to adapt the screenplay, the trade paper reported.

I wouldn’t doubt if they played the movie straight… with a couple of vagina jokes thrown in

And weren’t those in the original series?!

I would hope that if a Logan’s Run movie was made, it would not be a remake, but rather a “make” of Nolan’s and Johnson’s novel. Sure the book was a bit of 60s nonsense, but at least the damned thing moved from nice set-piece to nice set-piece, and had a fairly good twist (Ballard’s real identity), plus I want to see the Crazy Horse scenes.

Sir Rhosis

Yeah?

Huh?

Who is that?

Damn kids! Stop that already!

::::wandering off::::

After I saw Logan’s Run a few months ago, I felt The Matrix movies owed it an awfully big debt. Not that that’s a remake, but…

Speaking of big debts, I think the last two Matrix movies owe ME an awfully big debt. I’d say I’m owed about $20, plus emotional damages.
