Movie(s) you saw that you're pretty sure nobody else has seen

The Mangler - horror film with the guy who voices Chucky. Saw in theater (because I worked there), lasted barely a week. Was alone but it was an afternoon showing.

The Linguini Incident - rom-com with David Bowie and Rosanna Arquette. Saw in theater because it was Bowie, was alone both times, evening showings.

The Manitou, a mid-70s film version of Graham Masterton’s horror novel of the same name. It’s cheesy and horrible and I adore it. Tony Curtis is perfect for the lead role of a smart-ass fake mystic who gets in over his head with the real thing (Native-American style.)

Has anyone seen the following films?

Fishing with Ghandi - I really enjoyed this movie, though it was made with a budget of about 30 cents. I haven’t seen it in almost ten years, but would love to watch it again.
Nice girls don’t explode - I found this movie funny at the time, and wonder if it would be as good watching it now.
Santa Sangre This was just weird. A friend of mine recommended it. I’m not sure why.

The Apple (1980)
Matilda (1978)

Putney Swope

I’m assuming documentaries count. Crossing the Bridge is about Istanbul’s music scene and is excellent, but was very low-distribution and I doubt anyone here has seen it.

The Item. All of the hallmarks you love in student films. Read the IMDB message boards on this one.

Considering my current thread Invasion of the Jumbo Shrimp (Invasion of the Jumbo Shrimp - Miscellaneous and Personal Stuff I Must Share - Straight Dope Message Board ) , it’s appropriate that I bring up The Giant Bruine Shrimp, a little clay animation masterpiece that they used to show at the Blue Mouse indy theater in Salt Lake City, sdometimes on a doyuble bill with Trapped by the Mormons.
If you lived in Salt Lake City, you’d understand.

The Giant Brine Shrimp is now out on YouTube. Here’s the first part:

Actually, Trapped by the Mormons is another good choice. I own a copy. To my surprise, there is a sequel (!) and a recent remake (!!)

Nom dePlume - this is off topic but you mentioned Santa Sangre; well there used to be a poster on these boards who hated that movie. Every once in a while it would come up in a thread and he would go off on the most hilarious rants about it. I mean hilarious, giggling and laughing at your computer funny. So, you two at least have seen it.

You’ve piqued my curiosity! Any idea what thread(s) that was in or who that mystery poster would have been?

Picking Up the Pieces. An all-star cast (Woody Allen, Sharon Stone, Elliot Gould, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Cheech Marin, Fran Drescher, Lou Diamond Phillips, David Schwimmer, & Kiefer Sutherland, among others) about a Texas butcher (Allen) who murders his wife (Stone), chops her up, and scatters her in the desert. Her hand (with middle finger stuck out) is discovered and starts making miracles happen. Seeing Woody Allen as a character named “Tex” is funny enough, as is some of the casting. David Schwimmer’s first scene is uproarious when the punchline comes. Pay attention to the actors who play priests and nuns – they all have something in common.

Baptists at Our Barbecue. A charming comedy about a small town that’s half Baptist and half Mormon, with the two groups mistrusting each other.

I’ve seen Santa Sangre. It’s is a weird horror film, but not half as weird as the psychedelic quasi-omni-religious allegorical film The Holy Mountain also directed by Jodorowski.

As for the opening post, I’m pretty sure other people have seen the films I have seen. I was, coincidentially, thinking The Holy Mountain, but it was semi-lifted from the obscurity of bootleg VHS after ABKCO finally released it on DVD in 2007. It was never officially released on a home video format (filmed in 1973). Same for El Topo

I found this post in a search.

I saw that! Never could remember the name.

some interesting films mentioned in this thread that I want to find now.

oh - Enlightening Meditation - that was one of Hamlet’s milder rants against Santa Sangre. He was capable of much more.

Schlock (1973) John Landis’s first movie.

Fishka der Krimmer (1939) Saw it at a Yiddish film festival … It’s a very good film.

My favourite movie of all time: “Slaves of New York”. I’ve met only one person in my life who has ever heard of it.

The book was a big seller when it first came out, and made a name for Tama Janowicz. I heard of the movie and saw stills, but never saw the movie itself.

FrankenHooker.
A medical school dropout loses his fiancee in a tragic lawnmower incident, and decides to bring her back. Unfortunately, he was only able to save her head, so he goes to the red light district in the city and lures prostitutes into a hotel room so he can get parts for his girlfriend.

I’ve seen it. The film is essentially a remake of The Thing that Wouldn’t Die/The Brain that Wouldn’t Die (which MST3K did). One interesting thing is that a feature from the poster for TTTWD/TBTWD, a brain in a beaker of liquid, with a big eyeball at one end never actually appeared in that movie, but is at the very beginning of Frankenhooker, a tribute to the film’s roots.

Hell, I own that one on DVD.
