Psycho is one of the two movies.
If @burpo_the_wonder_mutt meant Alien for “Mother???”—it’s a fair guess as several characters address the computer as Mother; I’m not remembering a specific scene where anyone says the single word in a questioning tone. (But that doesn’t mean it’s not there.)
Anyway, the second movie I was thinking of isn’t Alien.

American Pie—maybe there is a scene of someone saying that single word in a questioning tone (the scene with pastry, in the kitchen?) Not sure. Not the one I meant, anyway.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels —I wasn’t thinking of this but it’s a great guess—Steve Martin, as Ruprecht (sp?) DOES say that single word as a question, to a woman who is not his mother.

Yes, Alien was the one I was thinking of: I think Dallas asks Mother questions near the beginning and I’m quite sure Ripley is trying to ask Mother why she isn’t shutting down the self-destruct before calling Mother a naughty word near the end.
No one would know this, but near the end of George Romero’s Day of The Dead the psycho doctor who’s experimenting on the zombies leaves a tape recorder laying around that has him talking to his dead mother and questioning if he’s being a good boy, etc…
What with that and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, there do appear to be several movies in which someone says “Mother” in a questioning tone.
The two I was thinking of were Psycho (which was guessed) and—well, I’ll just say it so we can move on—Bambi.
