Movie Stars On Talk Shows: "I brought a clip, Dave..."

Is it just me or do the film clips that movie stars bring to talk shows almost always suck? Honestly, I don’t understand why these actors don’t simply show the film’s trailer to talk show audiences. At least those are produced to create some excitement about an upcoming movie; but to show a 30-second out-of-context clip is almost always awkward and hardly ever makes ME at least want to go see the film. I suppose the regular trailers are too long, but couldn’t the studios also produce a shorter version?

I realize I probably am thinking too much about this…but for some reason it irks me!

The idea of showing a clip is to feature the guest’s performance. The trailer isn’t necessarily going to feature the guest, especially if the guest is in a secondary or supporting role.

As to why they all suck, that’s I guess a subjective question you’ll have to answer for yourself.

Just think,

That clip is carefully selected by the producers and the marketing team. It’s supposed to appeal to the people who watch that particular talk show.

Maybe you just watch the wrong shows, because there is no way the marketing team could be wrong.

It seems like the idea is to show a clip of the actor’s focal point in the film. Presumably, the people tuning in to see the actor want to believe that the film is focused on their favorite actor, as that will make it more likely for them to go see it. MHO.
