This one from Disney’s Meet The Robinsons. And not the whole thing either, just the dinosaur’s line and the way he waves his arms around – the combination makes me laugh every time I see it. I don’t even think the movie looks that great, but I’m giggling at the trailer. FWIW.
I’m looking forward to taking my kids to this one. I gotta admit, that dinosaur bit is one of the reasons why!
Meh… it’s no Pixar that’s for sure, just because it’s CGI doesn’t mean it’s going to be good…
I predict this will be out on DVD very quickly, it may have a short theatrical run
It’s kinda got a Futurama-Meets-Jimmy-Neutron-as-interpreted-by-Dreamworks (yes i know it’s a Disney film) feel to it, it’s got that hollow over-reliance on media references feel that plagues Dreamworks films
it has the potential to be good, and who knows, I may be wrong, but this one feels rather empty to me…
The local theater chain has a clever don’t-talk-during-the-movie trailer featuring Frankie the frog and his band singing “I Heard You From The Snack Line” (a parody of I Heard It Through the Grapevine).
This could be good, could not be. I liked William Joyce’s character designs in Robots (which I enjoyed), and Bowler Hat Guy looks like he’s an intriguing character. The dinosaur gag is pretty good (you can actually sort of make out what he’s saying, which makes it funnier), but some of the other ones seen in the ads (“Why is the dog wearing glasses?” “'Cause his insurance won’t pay for contacts!”) fall flat for me. Also- and this is just a criticism of the setting- 2037 seems a little too soon for the future as seen in the film. Maybe that’s the year Joyce’s book (from this which is adapted) was set in, I don’t know. If our 2001 didn’t look like Clarke and Kubrick’s, I’m guessing our 2037 isn’t going to look like Joyce’s and Disney’s.
I agree the movie doesn’t look that good, but the dinosaur part cracks me up too. That and “Todayland”.
Heh. I do my impression of the dinosaur at any given opportunity.
“I have a big head and little arms!” waves maniacly
I’m skeptical as well. Wow, they’re making fun of pretentious coffee variety names? How risque and cutting edge…
Since when did something have to be risque to be funny?
The dinosaur part and Todayland crack me up everytime and I am going to see it just because of the dinosaur. The look on its face is priceless.
MaxtheVool:
If you’re referring to the scene I think you’re referring to, I thought the joke was just about the person’s hyper-energetic personality, as caused by “coffee patches.”
That part looks rather tacked on and made just for the ad than part of the movie itself. (Not the caffeine patch, but the part where the character is holding up cards that riff on fancy coffee names.)
It looks amusing. I’ll probably rent it to watch with my son.
The best T-Rex little arm joke I ever saw was in Caveman with Ringo Starr. IIRC, the Rex is stoned from being force fed special berries and is stumbling on a rocky ledge. He starts to fall over, and wheels his teeny little arms around to try and balance himself.
The image of that hulking huge body and wee little arms just cracks me up every time.
It doesn’t… but that joke has been made over and over and over again dating back to at least LA Story. It has a very poochy vibe to it. (By which I mean, a bunch of suits sitting around a conference table trying to decide, via market research, what is funny.)
On the other hand, everyone else in the thread seems to disagree with me, so ymmv.
Blades of Glory is cracking me up, just because of Napoleon Dynamite in that blond wig, and the parody of all the ice skating/dance competition movies I love.
I love the T-rex bit. I also like the check with the caffeine patch because that would be me if there was such a thing screams Sorry.
I downloaded on my Xbox last night two trailers for an upcomming Movie with Jerry Seinfeld, Bee Movie, Both of them have Jerry in an amusement parkesqe Bee Costume, one has him climbing up on huge set piece of a car window, with other actors in insect suits and him thanking them for working on “his” project, a director Eddie Izzard yells to action then start winshield washer, someone hidden in the set piece starts spraying a hose on the actors, then start wipers, and giant wipers start moving knocking actors down. I was cracking up
The second has Seinfeld again in the Bee suit suspended from above getting lowered down on another huge set piece of a window with a flower box, it all had the look of a computer animated set piece until he gets dropped the foam pieces break, Speilberg comes on camera and suggests, “Maybe we should try this as an animated film instead” then cue animated trailer, very cute and well done trailer.
I love it! We saw it the other night and I started jumping around the room. I’ve been making etchings (here’s one) about that very important issue for the last few years. It’s not a new idea, but somehow the poor things with their useless forelimbs get me every time.
This has nothing to do with the thread, but I just spotted your Username in the listing of New Posts and had to drop by to tell you how thrilled I am at the cleverness. I was hooked on The Shadow radio drama before I was old enough for junior high school. Margo and Lamont were my regular Sunday afternoon escape mechanism in the early 50’s.
Aw, thanks! I’ve been hooked since I was a kid, too, but that was in the mid-80’s.
For some reason, I’m reminded of Gary Larson’s infamous “cow tools” cartoon.
