Final Fantasy X would make a good movie, seeing as it basically is one already.

See? Not much of a budget even!
From movie trailer:
“He’s been chased through the caves of darkness, past the pits of despair. It’s finally time to take a stand. It’s time for a voice to rise and declare no more! Summer, 2003. The Wumpus is hunting you!”
Grand Theft Auto
They should make a movie out of Street Fighter II: The Movie: The Game. It’d be like one of those Babelfish translations where you go back and forth between Spanish and English, destroying all meaning.
I wonder if James Cameron is Available.
Terry Gilliam would be perfect.
Would there be a button for “Tell me more”?
Oh yes. The plot would need a bit of cleaning up for the transition to film (the game’s plot was, after all, meant to be a kind of exaggerated parody of overly-complicated film noir plots), but the characters, situations and visual style would make for a great CGI movie.
Speaking of Lucasarts games, I’m sure an entertaining movie could be patched together out of bits and pieces from all the Monkey Island games - as long as Murray the demonic skull is in it.
Vagrant Story would make a great movie.
Think James Bond in medieval times.
I always thought Silent Hill would make for one seriously frightening and fucked up film. It’s the only game that’s ever frightened me, and the whole atmosphere, storyline, and general feeling of creepiness would translate well onto the big screen, in my opinion.
Of course, this depends on the project being handled WELL - any story can turn to shit in the hands of someone incompetent (cough ahem) wing commander (cough).
Someone mentioned the Myth series of games, but if a Bungie game is going to be made into a movie, I think it should be either Marathon or Halo.
Ohter nominations would be the Legacy of Kain series, and Zork.
I CANT WAIT I CANT WAIT I CANT WAIT!!! YAY!!! YAY!!!
I don’t know, as long as he doesn’t turn it into a slasher movie, I think it would be OK. My choice for director or producer would be Clive Barker (the Hellraiser guy).
Lotsa good suggestions here, anyone want to start filling in the plot, etc of the various ideas?
When I saw the thread title, the games I thought of first were Fallout and Homeworld, and any/all Blizzard games. I see I was beaten to the punch within 20 minutes of the OP (and by the OP itself).
Tex Murphy!
The games are practically movies already.
Mechwarrior has great visuals and it’s strong on story – has a board game with very deep backstory and a number of novels already based on it. Hell, it’d be cheap, too, since the CGI design is basically already done.
I would like to see The Legend of Zelda…assuming they didn’t crap it up…which, of course, they would.
Rampage
How about Charlie Sheen as Gordon Freeman for the Half-Life movie? (Think The Arrival)
How about a full-length Sam and Max animated movie? I’m so stoked they are making another game.
Fallout under the right direction would make an incredible movie.
Half-Life seems like it would, but you have to remember most of the game is just running around and shooting. And one of the reasons its so great is because of all the running and shooting. But a lot of running and shooting in a movie is bound to get boring. Besides, it would probably get ruined in the crossover anyway…
Planescape: Torment. The only fantasy movie to have the same beggining as Memento… the story’s great, though i can’t figure out how to turn it into a movie. Some condesning and such would be required… but i’d still like to see it
Castlevania seems like a good idea-- its Indiana Jones meets Blade! If they can make monster-killing with a whip unsilly, i’m all for it…
the Baldur’s Gate games are great… good story, could make nay number of fantasy movies…
i want my Metroid movie…
