Movies based on games I'd actually LIKE to see (spoilers)

Wouldn’t that be “King Kong vs. Godzilla(female) vs. giant werewolf”?

HPL, you… you say that like it… like it’s a bad thing!

And I’ll jump on the Fallout bandwagon. The potential for bunging it up is huge, but if it were handled just right…

The original Castle Wolfenstein.

And I mean the original original, so you’d need two-dimensional actors. I wonder Keanu Reaves and Cameron Diaz would be available, with Kevin Costner as Nazi Guard #4.

Oooh, oooh. If they did a Castle Wolfenstein movie, with 2d actors, would they run over KR, CD and KC with a steamroller first? I’d pay good money for that.

Sure, Cameron Dias is cute, but it would be worth losing her just to get rid of KR and KC.

The great thing about Halflife is that they could make a trilogy, with Opposing Forces and Blue Shift happening at the same time as Halflife.

I’d rather see Ron Perlman as Freeman. Or maybe Jeff Goldblum.

Metroid would be an UBER movie. I say let the Sci-Fi channel handle it, they did a pretty good job with Dune, and they can spend they’re money on Non-ripoff movies. WTF did they try to rip off Reign of Fire???

As for Fallout I still think the De Laurentiis bros would do a very good job with it (the original Dune and Flash Gorden, Army of Darkness, and Red Dragon to name a few.)

Vice City, get Ray Liotta, he’s right next to Cheech Marin and Ponch from CHiPs in willingness to take any job they toss at him.

I think a good Spy movie based off of “No One Lives Forever” is almost a no brainer. The game was made to flow like a movie.

I sure hope so. It’d be the first step in a movement to revive this.

Oooh! Oooh! I second that vote for Monkey Island… now who would be the ideal Guybrush Threepwood?

I’m also keen to see other LucasArt’s games - Full Throttle, Sam & Max Hit The Road (man, was that funny), Day of the Tentacle (and Maniac Mansion)…

Yes, I’m a sucker for LucasArts walkthru games… but they were so damn funny!

Chrono Trigger would make an awesome movie, if they did it right. The only problem is they’d have to pick an ending and stick with it (until it came out on DVD, of course).

Final Fantasy Tactics could also be a great movie, once again if they did it right. One of the few problems would be that you’d have to use only main characters for any battles that were decided to be used, but that could be easily worked around.

Anyone remember Harry the Handsome Executive? I see Bruce Campbell in an office complex throwing water coolers at robots.
Or Rupture the Rapture, as an answer to Left Behind, the Movie.

Half-Life could be good, but forget Jeff Goldblum – he’s too wimpy.

Legend of Zelda could be good (but yeah, you’d have to wait a few years so people won’t compare it to LOTR)

American McGee’s Alice could be awesome!

How about Contra, with Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Swarzanegger as the two grizzled combat veterans?

They would also have to give the main character a personality. Speechless and personality-less characters don’t work too well in the movies. In fact, I don’t like them in games either, but that’s another subject entirely. I agree that the plot would make for a good movie.

I would also like to see The Legend of Zelda as a movie, but then the problem of the personality-less main character comes up again.

Half Life definatly. Opposing Force maybe. Blue Shift…
Have you even played Blue Shift? There was nothing new or interesting about it other then the revelation that: (Opposing Force and Blue Shift spoilers)

some people actually did make it out before the bomb went off at the end of Opposing Force.

It wasn’t even long enough as a game. Imagine a movie…

The problme I see with these is that you’d never be able to make the movies anywhere near as good as the games. You’d have to cover far too much territory in 2 1/2 hours tops (3 hours being reserved for Epics). I love both games, but I don’t see either working, particulary which the intricate plot of Tactics and the whole feel of Chrono Trigger.

You’re more likely to get the new version (Return to Castle Wolfenstein) and that probably wouldn’t work well.

Columbia Pictures is working on the movie version of Return to Castle Wolfenstein. I, for one, love the concept of Nazis and the occult, but I wonder how it’ll fare with Hellboy coming out soon.

The Indiana Jones movies did pretty well with that theme… speaking of which, a “Fate of Atlantis” movie would be pretty cool. Hell, any LucasArts Adventure movie would be great… mmm… Monkey Island…
