Dan. Brown. Bad.
Crush. Kill. Destroy. (points for reference to this)
One objection is that ‘a voice spoke’ is totally legitimate.
Now, the way that ‘Mister I have more dollars than you ever will’ uses it… meh.
Most of the posters here write better than Dan Brown.
And I damn by faint praise.
Those trashy cable “reality” shows like the ones on VH-1. I am pretty sure even watching them “ironically” is a character flaw.
Wait now, don’t be hasty. Was she a teenager back then? My girlfriends and I saw that movie many times while it was in our local theaters, mostly because it was the only good thing playing but also because we thought Peter Frampton was cute. It’s not like we were paying attention to the plot.
Anybody who listens to one, only one, and exclusively one, kind of music - even worse if it’s only one group or composer*. Even Metallica and Queen become shit when the same song comes up by the 6th time in one hour. And yes, I know it’s not the kind of media the OP was asking about - it’s the one that irks me, though.
*I haven’t encountered any from the classical realms, but my music professor uncle would shudder in revolted wonder telling us about a coworker who for the last few years had listened to nothing but Mozart.
Music’s fine, covered by the “etc.”
I think I agree with the people who’ve been saying that it’s the reasoning behind the liking that leads to a loss of respect, which I think even vaguely covers the one-artist fans you’re describing here. I imagine that someone who only likes one thing of a given media (even something like Mozart) to be so narrow-minded and fanatical to their one thing that they drown out everything else. It’s like those people who only read the Bible and approved Christian texts (like one of my close relatives).
Anyway, I almost never judge someone for liking “stupid” things, simply because it’s sometimes very fun to indulge in stupid things. That extends to saccharine romcoms that I thoroughly despise, but can easily accept someone else liking. But when people idealize characters or relationships that are just disturbing, wrong or completely idiotic (hello Twilight), you go down in my estimation. If you like Twilight for the worldbuilding or sparkly vampires or as a throwaway action/romance, fine, I don’t care. But to honestly think that Edwin and Bella have the bestest most perfect relationship in the world - [shudder]
I’ll also add an irrational disdain to anyone who bought Madonna’s song “Music”. We can still be friends, but your music opinion will carry absolutely no weight with me, and may in fact incur negative weight (i.e. I will seek out songs you dislike).
