The Last Starfighter for sure
Pleased to meet you! I’m chopped liver.
Which was odd because the film was a success, it was entertaining, and Arnold had no opposition to sequels.
I think the lack of sequel had more to do with Titanic than with Arnold.
Yes, the Neverending Story had a sequel, but you think that’d be a franchise ripe for a countless number of installments…
Really? To what are you referring? It seemed that it was bundled up quite neatly to me, and I’ve read numerous times that Joss meant this as his goodbye, but that could be after the fact rationalization.
Heh, maybe that’s wishful thinking on my part, I admit.
Last year, reports began to come out that a sequel to this was underway. Since it’s independent, there’s a good chance it won’t see the light of day, but as of January, Tales of Ancient Empire was still in production.
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen killed off Quatermain in a manner that was clearly meant to be temporary. Wow. Just… wow.
Has there been any word about “the Chronicles of Narnia” series? The last I read, Walt Disney had pulled out of financing the third installment “Dawn Treader” since “Prince Caspian” didn’t make that much money apparently. I’ve read some other studios might continue the series though. Does anybody know about this, or is this another discontinued movie series? That’d be too bad IMO, since the first two were actually decent flicks AND true to the original source material.
That was continued as a video game.
How so? It seemed to wrap up pretty definitively to me.
The endings of both The Incredibles and Galaxy Quest looked more like “life goes on after this story” endings than “sequel!” It’s a fine distinction, but it’s there.
Yeah, and now Jamie Lee Curtis is too busy fighting fellow females’ irregularity through yogurt culture to do another one, even when Ahnold gets term limited out of his job.
Predator II sort of the stage for another movie with Danny Glover exiting the alien ship with an 18th century pistol. I thought the movie was better than a lot of people give it credit for and it’d be interesting to see what direction they would go in in a sequel - but not of the Alien vs. Predator variety, which was only a quasi-sequel at best.
What about the spoof movie where the mormon becomes a porn star hero, with his side kick “choda boy” ?
Seems like their nemisis, orgasmo, played by ron geremy, was itching for a rematch at the end.
Well, there was the little-known Highway to Hell. The closing song has the repeated lyric “…maybe the next time…”
The survival of the main bad guy in The Last Starfighter had potential. Unfortunately, the title is a stumbling block.
Can I mention a sequel currently being discussed that I hope does not pan out? Namely, a Buffy, Vampire Slayer follow-up; in essence, a “reboot” of the movie, not the TV show of fond memory.
I am not amused.
What about the Lemony Snicket movies? I know they stuffed a lot into that movie, but I thought it was supposed to have sequels.
Came out when everyone was trying to ride the genre robetails of Harry Potter, but nothing but the adaptations of Rowling ever actually “caught” in that niche. Same deal as with His Dark Materials. Juvenile fiction about magical/mystic/weird stuff happening to kids. Even the Narnia franchise flickered with the first sequel, more’s the pity. They really should have gone straight on to Dawn Treader there and left Prince Caspian unadapted.
Silverado ends with the main characters riding off and Kevin Costner turning around and yelling “We’ll be back”. I would love to see a sequel but considering how famous everyone has gotten that movie would cost a fortune.
I think they went too “LOTR” with Narnia, and I liked LOTR a lot. But the essential feeling of Narnia was gone. I’m not sure exactly what bothered me about it, but it was there.
But oh! how I wanted to see Dawn Treader.
I never liked Prince Caspian (the book). I thought it was way too dark and boring. I loved Dawn Treader. They really, really should have skipped over PC and made Dawn Treader first.
