I don’t mean things like “Lord of the Rings” or “Harry Potter” or “The Matrix” or “Star Trek” – i.e., pre-existing franchises.
What I mean are movies whose title made you say, “I’ve gotta see that” even though it was something you hadn’t heard of before.
For instance, how could you resist something titled Jesus Christ, Vampire Hunter ?
What others can you think of?
An American Werewolf in London . Worked for me.
Jurassic Park.
The Unbearable Lightness of Being.
Blue (okay, I’m a big Juliette Binoche fan. Sue me.)

At the time, I thought Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man sounded like a fun movie to see. Boy was I wrong.

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension .
Nice Girls Don’t Explode . Saw it listed on HBO once and just had to check it out. Plus I liked Michelle Meyrink in Real Genius
My Stepmother Is an Alien .
Boy, was that a terrible movie.
The Englishman Who Went Up A Hill But Came Down A Mountain
Well, it’s made me want to see it for nigh on ten years now. Someday…

The Rats Are Coming, The Werewolves Are Here!
I saw it listed in one of those big video guides awhile back. I’d love to actually see it.

Jesse James Meets Frankenstein’s Daughter
I mean, how could anyone not want to see a movie with that title?

I really wanted to see **Scream If You Know What I Did Last Halloween **. But then they changed the title to Scary Movie so I didn’t.
Oh Dad, Poor Dad, Momma’s Hung You in the Closet and I’m feelin’ So Sad , a gawdawful 60s musical with Jonathan Winters. I only rented it because of the title.
Avenging Disco Godfather with Rudy Ray Moore his own self.
Death To Smoochy . Actually, I haven’t seen this yet, but I really want to.
Flirting With Disaster . Good title, excellent comedy.
Being John Malkovich . Scary title, excellent film.
The Royal Tennenbaums . Magisterial title, but somewhat disappointing.
Star Wars: The Phantom Menace . Franchise title, by turns excellent and horrible.
One more:
Killer Klowns From Outer Space . Was it the title that made the Dickies theme song great, or the other way around?
