Movies with cutesy character names

I watched the last 10 minutes of a horrible a “Mystery/Suspense” thing the other night. Totally crap movie, the title of which was one word and I can’t recall it. Filmed in 1961, it even had a “Fright Break.” The movie is interrupted and a voice over says the purpose of the break is to let feint of heart (not thos words exactly) to leave the theater before they see the heart-attack-inspiring ending.

Anyway, the principal female character was named Miriam Webster.

Maybe you liked the Fright Break better.

Homicidal, directed by William Castle.

Damnit, Towers. I guessed it was a Castle picture; I was betting on The Tingler.

The Tingler, if I recall correctly, was actually shown in theaters that were rigged up with wires in every seat that gave people mild electric shocks (!)

I’ve always liked the character names in Robert Altman’s Images:
Susannah York – Cathryn
Rene Auberjonois – Hugh
Marcel Bozzuffi – Rene
Hugh Millais – Marcel
Cathryn Harrison – Susannah

Cute and subtle. But it must have been very confusing on set.

Comedies often have cute character names in order to make it seem funnier. It rarely works. Mel Brooks comes close – Hedley Lamarr, Lily von Schtupp, Nurse Diesel, Professor Lilloman, Dark Helmet, etc.
