Lately, In Bruges,* Dark Knight*, and Iron Man. Old standbys are Meet Me in St. Louis, American Movie, American Psycho, Ruggles of Red Gap, Night of the Hunter, The Searchers, Rio Bravo . . . man, this list will just get longer and longer.
Until my early 20s, and going back as far as I can remember, whenever I liked a movie I would watch it over and over and over. I’ve seen the original Star Wars trilogy dozens of times each. Ditto:
The Villain (old Kirk Douglas comedy/western)
Friday
Snatch
Spaceballs
South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut
Orgazmo
Cannibal! The Musical
Vacation
The Matrix
Jaws
The Princess Bride
Hot Shots!
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Ace Ventura 2: When Nature Calls (strangely, I didn’t really care for the first one)
Don’t be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood
The Stoned Age (I’ve seen this over 200 times. I think I could quote pretty much the entire movie)
Aladdin
Disney’s Robin Hood
Errol Flynn’s Robin Hood
Disney’s Alice in Wonderland
Office Space
The Phantom Tollbooth
Mallrats
Clerks
Chasing Amy
Pulp Fiction
Predator
Y Tu Mama Tambien
That is by no means an exhaustive list. I could go on and on. Somehow I lost this magic. Even if I love a movie now I can rarely watch it again, and never more than twice anymore. Kind of wish I could.
Vacation
Caddyshack
Spies Like Us
Groundhog Day
Trading Places
Coming To America
Twister
Armageddon
Jaws
The Godfather
The Godfather: Part II
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
The Silence of the Lambs
Leon: The Professional
Full Metal Jacket
Magnolia
Boogie Nights
Goodfellas
Aliens
Theres a lot more, but that’s all I can think of at the moment. I watch them probably 4-6 times per year.
Any time I run across any of the following on TV, I have to stop and watch all the way through:
Airplane!
Spaceballs
The Princess Bride
Overboard
Sleepless in Seattle
Forrest Gump
Father of the Bride
X-Files: Fight the Future
When I was in college, I would play the same three movies over and over on the TV, day and night: Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Overboard. I loooove that scene on the boat with Sad Goldie in the Red Dress.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (I practically have it memorized)
Jurassic Park
Dogma
Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone
The Manitou (obscure bad horror movie)
I don’t watch a lot of movies, but I’ve seen those at least 10 times each (many more for Willy Wonka)
I am always delighted to see, and will happily drop everything to watch again even if it’s already started, these:
Trading Places
Casablanca
The Incredibles
The Iron Giant
Toy Story
Toy Story 2
The Abyss
Breaker Morant
True Lies
Pirates of the Caribbean
Star Wars
The Big Lebowski
Animal House
Glory
Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan
Star Trek: First Contact
Aliens
Pride & Prejudice (2005 version)
…and probably a dozen more that I can’t remember off the top of my head.
Snatch
Clueless
Trainspotting
Chasing Amy
Overboard
Beauty and the Beast
The Goonies
What a Girl Wants
Coming to America
The Color Purple
Shrek
Pretty Woman
Legally Blond
The Matrix Trilogy
The Big Chill
The Iron Giant
Babe
Real Genius
Tombstone
Men In Black
Monsters Inc.
Father Goose
True Lies
Sleepless in Seattle
Scarface (both versions) - this says more about the guys I date than anything else.
Bull Durham (yearly)
The Princess Bride
The Matrix series (so much beautiful Keanu)
I have only watched it twice now, but I have a feeling I’ll be watching “Brokeback Mountain” over and over and over (maybe hoping for it to turn out happy one of these days).
I don’t mean to watch “The Breakfast Club” over and over, but it hooks me every time I see it on tv (as does “Forrest Gump”).
Dirty Dancing for sure, though. Jurassic Park, The Lost World, JP III–not great, but good fun.
Ghost World…these characters just really resonate with me.
Agree with Clueless, the Godfather, Scarface, Goodfellas. So far only saw In Bruges once, in theatres, but I feel like it’s the kind of movie you can see multiple times.
