Mine has to be “Caddy Shack.” I have probably seen that movie over 13 times. It is just so funny that they made such a mokery of a snobby country club. The characters were awesome. Judge Smells, Spalding(even his name is funny), and Rodney just cracked me up. I think it is the best comedy of time.
Also I don’t think that is a bad waste of time either to see a movie over and over again. I think movies are art. It makes alot more sense to me to see a movie that you really like over and over than to sit and stare at a piece of canvas with a picture on hit hanging on a wall imho.
The second movie I have seen over and over again is “Vacation” such a classic too.
What movie or movies have you seen multiple times and why?
And what do you agree or disagree that “Caddyshack” is one of the funniest movies ever made?
I would have to concure on Caddyshack. It is, IMHO, the best comedy of all time. I must have watched it 30 times when I was in High School.
Other classics have to include Better Off Dead, Sure Thing, Top Secret, Strange Brew, Princess Bride… There are too many to list.
Of course, these are all from when I was a teenager. It doesn’t seem nearly as cool now to watch a movie 30 times. Now that I have kids of my own,the only movies that I see over and over are Little Mermaid, Dumbo, Mulan… (sigh)
Probably Clerks (because it’s just so damn honest)
or Caddieshack, yeah, that one always makes me laugh, as does Animal House (“You fucked up, you trusted us” is one of the best lines).
Two I used to watch all the time were The Kentucky Fried Movie and Amazon Women on the Moon. Those two movies contain some of the funniest stuff I’ve ever seen. Can’t hardly find them now and I never made a copy…because that would be wrong, yeah, and illegal.
I had a roommate in college that watched The Little Mermaid a whole slew of times. I think it reminded him of his girlfriend.
I have seen many movies many times. The one I one that I watch most often is Rounders. I pop that puppy in the VCR at least once every two weeks. I’ve probably seen it about 20 times. I love Poker and Ed Norton is one of my favorite actors.
But my all-time champeen has got to be The Warriors. I saw it 5 times in the theater, back in the late seventies. Then I saw it about 30 times over the years on HBO (I used to set my alarm clock for the middle of the night just to get up and watch it - that was before we owned a VCR).
I don’t own it now, but I used to have a taped copy, which I watched many many times. I could recite the entire movie verbatim. I would conservatively estimate that I’ve seen The Warriors about 50 times (probably more).
I just fell in love with that testosterone-laden, machismo-defining, comic book urban slugfest of an action flik when I was a snotty-nose pubescent, and I don’t let go of shit like that too easily.
I’d probably have to say either The Wizard of Oz or The Ten Commandments, both being annual traditions to watch on TV. But other than those, it seems like comedies are better for repeated watching than other movie types. Caddyshack is good, but I’ve seen Blazing Saddles, Army of Darkness, Holy Grail, and Billy Madison more times than Caddyshack.
I’m not a big movie fan (I’ve probably seen less than 50 movies in my life), but for some reason I’ve seen “On the Waterfront” more than 10 times. I love Brando sigh.
I’ve seen Casablanca probably 20 or 30 times now (over the last 20 years). It’s just such a good film - romantic without being too girly, touching without being too cloying, patriotic without being too flag-waving…
Just a great film all around. I think I’ll watch it tonight.
Blues Brothers - over 10 times. I just love the whole thing, beginning to end.
Last of the Mohicans - over 20 times, and possibly over 30. I loved everything about this movie…the actors, the music, the story, the location…one of my biggest thrills was going to Asheville, NC and seeing where they filmed parts of it. Yes, I realize this makes me weird. To quote my friend Todd, “Amy, you need a better favorite movie.”
Well, (ducking head in shame), I watched the Last Action Hero 9 times one day.
I have an excuse though! Don’t start throwing things at me! I was not in my right mind. I was down with a serious case of pneumonia and that stuff makes one a little crazy. For some reason, I found that corny flick comforting and kept calling the pay per view channel to play it on my cable. I even slept through it a few showings.
After I got better, I found I did not particularly like it and I almost relapsed when I got my cable bill!!
I have seen Cool Hand Luke at least 200 times. It’s been my favorite movie for at least 15 years. When I was a senior in college we (housemates and I) would watch it 2-3 time per week.
I have also seen A Few Good Men, Harvey, Braveheart, The Outlaw Josie Wales, Saving Private Ryan, Apollo 13 and Full Metal Jacket over 50 times each, because they’re the other ones I have on tape that never seem to get old.
It’d probably be “The Money Pit” with “Blazing Sadles” being a close second. An honorable mention goes to “The Princess Bride” (the only reason it’s third is it isn’t shown often and most rental places around my huse don’t have it.
Wow! You realized you have spent about 2 and half weeks of your life watching that flick? Good movie but 2 & 1/2 WOW! I guess you memorized every line in that movie by now huh?
Also I am glad I am not only “loser” as my Dad calls me for watching the same movie over and over. There is some other “losers” out there like me.
Oh yeah. I have no problem at all reciting that movie. Although I’m sure 200 is not an exaggeration, truth be told there are times when it’s playing in the VCR but I’m actually doing other things, so I don’t know if that is technically “watching”. But even in those cases I’ll speak out a line just as they say it.
Most? Probably Airplane!. Pulp Fiction a close second (actually, this would win the most theater viewings. Coming close would be The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly and A Fish Called Wanda.
I’ll stop there, although I can think of 7-8 more that I have seen at least 15 times.
