Movies You Didn't See for a Long Time: Me, "No Country for Old Men"

The Tetsuo hallucination scene gave me nightmares and unnerves me to this day.

Why couldn’t you just say, “At the end of the movie, he gets in a car crash, but escapes on a little kid’s bike”? Then if she asks for more details, you could claim an inability to explain more. Or, based on your relationsip with your wife, do you know that her simple question meant, “Please explain - in detail - the plot for the remainder of the movie”?

(paraphrasing something I’ve read in several places) A group of psychiatrists watched 400 different movies to see which had the most accurate portrayal of a psychopath. Anton Chigurh from No Country for Old Men was number 1.

In the movie he just walks away.

I learned that “Chigurh” isn’t a real name. Cormac McCarthy just invented a name with no clear origin.

Thanks. It’s been a while (and I didn’t really care for the movie.). Did he buy the kid’s shirt to use for a bandage?

Yup.

His last line; “You didn’t see me. I was already gone.” Which gives himself permission to not kill the kids.

I think he used the shirt more as a sling, but the effect was the same - he just disappears.

He did. He asked the kid to help him tie it into a large loop, and then he put the loop around his neck and used it as a sling.

FYI, anyone who liked NCFOM and hasn’t seen Hell or High Water, should.
They are very, very different movies, but I think if you liked one, you will like the other.

Agreed. They are both westerns and both very good. Westerns with a more modern setting, that is. Same with Sicario (but don’t bother with Sicario 2).

Great film. I saw that one in a more timely fashion.

Hell or High Water was an excellent film IMO.

I didn’t see Citizen Kane in its entirety until a few years ago. If you did NOT know how innovative it was when it originally came out it could come across as being cliched and hackneyed watching it now.

And I would say the same thing about Psycho.

Yeah, Citizen Kane is a movie that benefits from watching a lot of movies than came in the 10 years before it. Then when you watch it you understand why it’s a dividing line.

Okay, I took the recommendation and just finished watching it. Excellent film—thanks for the tip!

I watched Breaking Away tonight, it’s one of those movies I just never got around to seeing. Perfect vibe for the night, funny and light hearted.

I am still kinda of the opinion that the movie is really about him.

Heheh, yeah. That’s the point where I went “oh, yeah, this movie is visually amazing”.

Well, I didn’t think that would communicate what actually happens in the second half of the movie. She’s glad she finished watching it, for what it’s worth.

Man, that is one of my favorite movies. If I walk through the room and it’s on, I’m stuck there.

On the other end of the scale I watched The Star Wars Holiday Special for the first time a few years ago and it was as bad as people made it out to be,

I’ve always loved this movie. The Mad Magazine parody was also worthy!

(Conrad couldn’t hang onto his brother’s hand in the water because of the hand soap residue on them)
