Movies you're ashamed to admit you like.

Just watched Road House on cable last night. Awesome, and I’m not ashamed to admit it. I forced my wife to watch it and as I explained to her, it is somehow both terrible and awesome at the same time. (Not unlike Point Break, actually… another movie mentioned here.)

The two movies that popped into my head when I just read the thread title:

A Walk to Remember

Armageddon- in fact, this movie still makes me weep like a baby.

Oh, you’re so cute when you’re being snarky!!!

Anybody that doesn’t understand the OP and the thread title are a bit of a joke isn’t worth bothering with.

Sorry, I guess I really am not worth bothering with, because I don’t detect your jokeyness in the OP at all. Seems like a regular OP to me.

Perhaps you meant “guilty pleasure” movies, which means something different to me than what you wrote.

Apologies for the perceived snarkiness. You may now return to your regularly scheduled thread.

Nah I love that movie as well. The second one though…

I’ve probably seen Independence Day about 50 times. Not so much by choice though. When I was a kid, I’d spend a lot of time at my friend’s house. The only movie he had was Independence Day.

I have to admit the first three Police Academy movies were pretty funny, but once they got to four it started to get old.

I love this movie, and bought a copy just so I can introduce it to other people. I start smiling about two minutes in and don’t stop smiling till it’s over. Delightful movie.

Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. I even sort of liked the sequel.

I liked Independence Day for the blockbuster treatment it gave “V”. But I do cringe at the stupidity it’s rife with. That’s about the only Emmerich/Devlin movie I can stand.

I actually kind of liked the remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still. I’m sorry, OKAY?!

I also liked Spielberg’s War of the Worlds all the way through. Yes, even Fanning’s screaming, and Tom Cruise’s performance. I’m sorry, OKAY?!

I’m a sucker for time travel and aliens. What can I say?

Pretty Woman. I object to the storyline and the message; I could go on for several pages. But if it’s playing anywhere in my line of sight, I have to watch it until it’s over. Then I can go back to harumphing.

I feel like a pure fool for saying it, but I laughed like a loon all the way through Dodgeball and Borat. The latter, in particular, makes me feel like I need to take a bath, but lord it was horrifyingly entertaining.

Anyone remember Somewhere in Time from the '70s, with Christopher Reeve time-traveling back to fall in love with Dr. Quinn? … um Jane Seymour. I saw this movie when it came out and I was a misty eyed impressionable teenager. Oh, it’s dreck now but I still love the love story unreasonably. And I’m not a particularly chick-flicky type chick.

I guess like cmyk I’m a sucker for time travel. Not many aliens in that one though.

I just this morning was discussing how much I liked the Legally Blonde movies and getting lots of flak for it.

I also really enjoy cartoon movies (Pixar, Dreamworks, Disney). My boyfriend and I were both hyped up to see Madagascar and Madagascar 2 when they came out.

Sleeping with the Enemy
Prelude to a Kiss

"Somewhere in Time"love that movie(!)

Let’s see . . . I am a 42-year-old unmarried heterosexual male. Yet I like a lot of chick movies.
Mama Mia
My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

Most Meg Ryan movies.
Most Jane Austen movies.

I have a degree in history. By all rights, I should loathe A Knight’s Tale. I pretend that it’s a sword-and-sorcery flick, or a D&D game, and I enjoy it.

As a comic book geek, my guiltiest pleasures are probably the direct-to-video version of Captain America, and David Hasselhoff as Nick Fury.

Ditoo for Legally Blonde
I also like “Bring it on”

Not Another Teen Movie. What I’m most ashamed of is that I’ve seen most of the movies that it’s spoofing.

The Chronicles of Riddick. I just think it kicks ass all the way around.
Underworld. Same as above.

You’ll probably love Zombie Strippers, then.

It’s kind of weird because I generally find romantic comedies tedious at best, but I have a secret love for Notting Hill.

Jurassic Park III is surprisingly wonderful.

The first time I saw “Bring it on” was with a friend in Birmingham. The theatre was filled with shrieking tweens. She hated the movie, I didn’t have the guts to say I enjoyed it. Seen the movie too many times to count since then, and found other friends who also love it.

Another shameful secret is “The Notebook”. Makes me weep like a little girl every time. I usually loathe romances, but there’s just something about the chemistry between the leads, and the story… I feel a need to see some of it every time it’s on TV. Never told anyone. :o :stuck_out_tongue:

/end confession

Josie and the Pussycats - I am so not in the target demographic for this one.

That’s because Cruise’s performance was excellent. He’s just easy to make fun of lately, so everyone does.

For me, Zoolander, Brother Bear, and The Hunted. There are probably a dozen more but I can’t think of any at the moment for some reason.

Borat was critically acclaimed (90+ on Rotten Tomatoes). Why would you feel foolish for liking it?
