Aaarrrghh! I’ve been avoiding this thread so hard! But the lure was just too great, and I guess the cleansing act of confession won’t hurt a bit.
I absolutely love the following movies. Make sure you have your tomatoes and bricks at the ready.
Boogie Nights. I have watched this movie a million times. I love the music, and think Burt Reynolds was simply fabulous in it. Yes, I also own the video, and am dying to get the cd to see the extras!
54. Yep. I’m probably the single person on the planet that actually thought this movie rocked. Again, I love the sound track and the clothes. Does Selma Hayek ever look bad? I mean, really. I own this movie, as well, and actually didn’t wait for it to hit the cheapie stand before I bought it.
Night at the Roxbury. See, now I never saw any of those SNL skits, so this movie sent me into spasms of rib-cracking hysteria. I watch this movie every chance I get. My kids think it’s a riot, too, so they love it when I say, “Hey, let’s watch Roxbury again!” I bought this one within hours after viewing it the first time.
Actually, the main reason I get embarrassed to admit I actually like these flicks is because everyone I know can’t stand them, and they think it’s a hoot because I do enjoy them. That’s fine with me, though. They can always get up and leave if I decide it’s time to go back into the '70’s for a little trip down porn-memory lane, bad hairstyles and shiny polyester, handpainted shirts included!
Don’t tell my family, but I too like Beastmaster. Then again, I saw it when I was a kick that loved watching Thundar the Barbarian on Saturday morning. If I saw it now, I dunno…
They made a sequel back in the 90s that I have yet to see. I figure they did it on a lark.
Mark Singer occasionally guest stars on the TV series.
Actually, (Spoiler alert!), according to 3-B Theater, it was a shaved college student and a plaster head. Now, the rest of you are going to have to see the movie to figure out what the heck I’m talking about.
My movie: The Princess Bride.
Yes, I know it’s great. However, most people I know haven’t seen it or heard of it. They hear the title, and brand me a “girly-man”. I don’t think telling them about the screaming eels will help…

[li]Bound[/li][li]What About Bob[/li][li]Dirty Dancing (I’m deeply ashamed of this one)[/li][li]Some Kind of Wonderful (I used to own this)[/li][li]Romy & Michelle’s High School Reunion [/li][li]Fried Green Tomatoes[/li][li]Charlie’s Angels [/li][li]10 Things I Hate About You[/li][li]Cruel Intentions[/li][li]Gladiator (I own it)[/li][/ul]
There’s more, but I’ve mortified myself enough for one post.
Thanks for all the great responses. I’ve got some good leads to go check out now!
You’ve reminded me of some others that I totally love but wouldn’t mind no one seeing in my closet, and “A Night at the Roxbury” is definitely one of them! And I do like “Ten Things I Hate About You”, although I’m not one bit ashamed of it.
I’ve been told that I have a warped sense of humor. Maybe that explains some of it?
I’ve only seen it once, but I thought Boogie Nights was a genuinely good film, so I’m not embarassed about it.
On the other hand I would not tell everyone that I like Midnight Cowboy or Chariots of Fire. THe former has the bizarre bonus (for people who grew up in 1970s UK) of having the Wildtrack theme music in it.

Maybe so, but the promo commercial where Mark Wahlberg, et.al. are disco dancing used a very unfortunate song for advertising a movie about the porno industry:
"Mama Told Me Not to Come."
Who in God’s name green-lighted that musical selection?
Time Bandits. One of my favorites when I was a kid. I currently own the Criterion Collection edition of the DVD.
The Neverending Story. Lotsa flaws (starting with the fact that it’s a semi-botched rendition of the first half of the book), but I’ve always had a soft spot for this one. I own it on DVD, too.
The Shining. Stanley Kubrick’s version. Yes, I know that it is quite different from the book, but I appreciate both versions for their own merits.
Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. The least of all the Star Wars movies, I still like it overall.
A.I. Artificial Intelligence. Apparently, a lot of people don’t like this one. How sad.
Labyrinth. It’s been mentioned before in this thread, and I’ll add my name to the list of those who are embarrassed to like it.
Dumb and Dumber. Ghod, I’m so ashamed for liking this movie.
Tron. Bad dialogue. Iffy acting by some. Cartoonish characterizations. Awkward moments. Why do I persist in liking this one?
I’m not really embarrassed about any of them. I love cheesy movies. Corny movies are great! I like the silly movies, although too much Ernest could get on my nerves.
