I don’t understand the concept “guilty pleasures.” The following movies have been mentioned here as such, but I’m hear to assure each of you who named them that you can come out of the closet: each of these films has something of real value that has been overlooked by the lemmings that make up most of the audience:[ul]Hudson Hawk
The Incredible Shrinking Woman
Romy & Michelle’s High School Reunion
Hairspray
Dude, Where’s My Car?
Legally Blonde
Bring It On
Crash
Dead Alive
The Fifth Element
Showgirls
Beavis & Butthead Do America
Starship Troopers
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension
The Faculty
The Last Action Hero
The Shining[/ul]In fact, I predict that within the next few years, Showgirls will undergo a transformation in the critical canon and will someday soon be seen as the great film it is. (Note the distinct lack of smileys in this post.)
aw geez
Pretend I previewed.
This board is too slow to preview, so I don’t, but I always wish I had.
I liked that one a lot.
Also, I must have seen “Waterworld” about twenty-five times (always good for a hot summer afternoon).
It’s not that I just love Kevin Costner, though.
Couldn’t stand him in his “Robin Hood”.
Don’t ask me why, but I absolutely love Armageddon. Watched the DVD at least 20 times.
I’ve been thinkin’ and thinkin’ .I wanna be embarrassed too.
I get nagged a lot, for liking ** Ferris Bueller’s Day Off ** that much.
And another favourite is **Shoot to kill **.
But they’re not that bad, right? Nothing to be embarrassed about.
*still thinking *
What about all the testo movies?
Road House
Steven Segal’s …
Van Damme’s …
Meteor, Earthquake, The Swarm, and all those other 70s disaster flicks.
And the remake of Planet of the Apes.
I don’t think Legally Blonde, The Princess Bride, or Ferris Beuller’s Day Off Should cause anyone to be embarrassed.
Legally Blonde was critically acclaimed, and was a hilarious movie, in my opinion.
The Princess Bride is one of the funniest movies of all time, and what I consider to be a classic, that is infinitely more popular now than it was during its release. (and I saw it in the theater).
Ferris Beuller is just THE movie for anyone growing up at the time it came out. I’ve probably seen it at least 35-40 times, and I know nearly the entire script by heart.
Me, I feel a little odd admitting that I liked SW:Episode I.
I also liked Titanic and Gladiator but enough people liked them that they won Best Picture, so they can’t be THAT bad.
Earnest Goes To Camp
Shut up, I liked when I was 12. I know it was one of those paint-by-numbers ‘Evil Corporation wants to strip-mine Indian ceremonical grounds’ storylines, but for Christ’s sake, it’s a Jim Varney movie. And its hard to take an evil corporation seriously when Dean Wormer is the CEO.
Mindless entertainment. And besides, any movie featuring a sub-plot about ‘Eggs Erroneous’ can’t be all bad, right?
I would have to say “Dude, Where’s My Car” and “Dumb and Dumber” , both of which I have just seen recently and found them hysterical…and I’m 53! The truth is, I’m not at all embarrassed about admitting that I like them either. I think I saw parts of my past, much younger life in each of those flicks and NOW I think it’s funny!
Joe Dirt
I am happy to report that the first two movies that came to mind are ones that nobody has mentioned yet:
Oscar
Doctor Detroit
I’m pretty much embarrassed by all the romantic comedies I love, but these are special:
Addicted to Love - I don’t understand the thrall this movie has me under. I’ve watched it at least twenty-five times. Meg Ryan is just so dadblasted CUTE.
The Truth About Cats and Dogs - I wouldn’t be embarrassed about this one except it has Uma Thurman in it.
The Mirror Has Two Faces - I’m not embarrassed to love Barbra Streisand, but I’ve watched this one an embarrassing number of times.
You’ve Got Mail - again with the Meg Ryan cuteness
:gulp: The Wedding Planner - How can I resist watching two such beautiful people? I just stare at them and think, “My God, they’re beautiful” for the full duration of the film.
You just goota see “THE BIG BUS”-absolutely hilarious! A spoof of the 70’s AIRPLANE movies…the best part is when the first atomic-powered bus gets t-boned by a Ford pickup truck full of hillbillies!
I love ‘West Side Story’
I would never tell anybody that though.
Great film, but, being an artsy farty film, kinda embarrasing.
You love West Side Story and Spinal Tap?
How you doin’?
