Tried to, anyway. The stupid was too strong. A world where gas is so precious and water in such short supply, yet they have no qualms about wasting either. I got halfway through and decided I did not deserve the punishment.
Agree with you on all points! The punishment some actors put themselves through in the name of their art really disturbs me sometimes (see also C Bale in The Machinist).
In a world where gas is so precious that you’ll kill anyone with reckless abandon, you don’t specially fit a tanker truck to haul amplifiers and guy playing an electric guitar that spits fire. Not to mention distributing water to your thirsty masses in a manner where almost all of it is immediately wasted. Those alone took me right out.
I hated it, and I’m a Mad Max fan going back to the start. It was nothing but a long, tedious, unending chase scene. I was flabbergasted it was actually nominated for Best Picture that year.
Loved, loved Fury Road.
It wasn’t everybody wasting water. Just the guy that controlled it and was never in any threat of running out. Money is pretty precious and in short supply to most but the filthy rich sure seem to blow it in extreme ways just to demonstrate how rich and in control of it they are (Dubai).
And gas wasn’t necessarily rare. Just worshipped and highly valued since the “haves” used it to give meaning to an otherwise desolate living. No value in hoarding it. Much more value in using it.
I saw Jaws in the theater. Hearing a crowd of at least 75 people scream is one of my favorite memories. Jaws scared the crap out of everybody. Everyone was squirming and nearly jumping out of their seat.
The movie isn’t quite as impressive at home. I have a 42 inch smart tv. Jaws still displays with black bars all around the letterboxing.
It would be much better on a home theater and sound system. You need the large screen to fully appreciate Bruce jumping onto the boat.
Jaws is a great movie to watch with your teenage kids. Seeing them experience the climatic scenes for the first time is great. The shark cage scene still makes me squirm. I know what’s coming and it’s still shocking.
I’ve never watched Jaws 2. I’ll stay on AMC and give it a try. I’ve read it’s not as good.
Showed the Back To The Future series to my kids. We own the whole set on Blu-Ray and they look amazing. Even more fun, my kids LOVED them! It isn’t the late 80’s anymore, but it does not matter. All the story still completely works and my kids thoroughly enjoyed all of it.
I remember watching these with my family. We all went to the theater for Part II and III and we adored them then and they still work completely.
10/10 for all three of them, to be honest. I know there are probably flaws, but I don’t care. These movies have aged like fine whiskey. Just tremendous.
Yeah, that was my take on it too. I really enjoyed Fury Road, but I saw it in a theater, and I wonder if it would still have grabbed me so much if it had been on a small screen. I have never really had the impulse to re-watch it.
Re-watched Grace of My Heart with Illeana Douglas, John Turturro, Eric Stoltz, Patsy Kensit and Matt Dillon, Douglas plays a Carole King like songwriter, singer-wannabe from the late 50s to the early 70s who makes terrible choices in men. (Not to be confused with the Carole King like figure in the recently watched American Hot Wax.)
Goodish music. Unfortunately almost all of it is written for the movie so not a good revue of golden oldies.
The early part set mostly in the famous Brill Building was the most fun. Esp. the Bridget Fonda “My Secret Love” part. Uncle Peter does a voice over. Shawn Colvin makes a tiny cameo.
I watched this movie last night and wow, what a movie. I mean, man, that took the breath out of me at various times. I clearly had the original cut. Apparently, one scene(in the bunker!) was cut or edited way down in the American release. It was shocking and horrifying and I am not one to be easily shocked.
Yeah, this movie kind of sucker punched me and I think it was just brilliant. How the heck this movie has been around 20+ years and I’ve never heard if it…I have no idea.
This is a movie that I will long remember, but probably never re-watch. It lingers in my mind.
Well, it’s been 22 years but I do remember the bunker scene from the theatrical version - which I won’t describe here, but it’s pretty upsetting. Don’t think anything was cut; how much worse could it be, really?
