Movies you've seen recently (Part 1)

I was out driving around town (in my Challenger (humblebrag)) and it dawned on me that I needed a good muscle car movie to watch. I’ve seen Deathproof a million times. I can’t find Vanishing Point anywhere. I’m sick of Gone in 60 Seconds (the newer one) and there’s no way I’m watching anything that is either fast or furious. Lo and behold, Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry (1974) is on TCM this afternoon. I haven’t seen this in years - I’m not even sure if I’ve seen the whole thing all the way through. I’m only halfway through it now and they’re just about to pick up the Green Charger.

Awesome flick.

Thanks for the clarification. I did, in fact, misconstrue your reply.

Same here. I can get downright annoyed by films that seem to be going nowhere. I remember being very bothered by an Éric Rohmer film that I watched all the way through at someone’s suggestion about 30 years ago. It’s not like I need to see explosions, chase scenes or helicopters to be entertained, but gawdallmighty there are some boring-ass films out there! Cassavetes is another that underwhelmed me. I should probably stop ranting now, because I’m probably just coming across as an uncultured crank. :grinning:

I’ve been searching for Vanishing Point, too. No service appears to have it in their library, even to rent.

It’s been decades now and I’m long overdue a re-watch.

Same here. I thought about buying the DVD from Amazon, but I’m afraid they’ll send me the 1997 remake.

I saw Vanishing Point on TV a few years ago very late at night on some obscure local channel that never broadcasts films. I was drawn in by the strong 70s vibe and because I thought it would be a so-bad-it’s-fun kind of film. A little over halfway in, I knew it was something special, and I realized it had attained cult status after seeing it mentioned a few times here on this message board. Haven’t seen it since.

Two-Lane Blacktop (title is link, check it out) appears to be similarly themed and is also rated 7.2/10 on IMDB.

Wow, I didn’t know if anyone else even knew that Two-Lane Blacktop even existed.

Seems like some of us really like road movies.

I don’t think they were going to Carolina, but I could be wrong.

Huh? I don’t remember much of Vanishing Point and I’ve only just come across the IMDB entry for Two-Lane Blacktop (haven’t seen it), so I may be missing something.

I believe it’s in reference to…

Yup. I’ve been whooshed! :grinning:

According to Google:

Where can u watch vanishing point?

Vanishing Point, an action movie starring Barry Newman, Cleavon Little, and Charlotte Rampling is available to stream now. Watch it on Movieland.Tv on your Roku device.

I don’t have Rocu so cannot confirm.

Holy Spider. An Iranian film about a family man who believes he is doing God’s work by “cleansing” the streets of “immoral women” (ie murdering prostitutes) and the female reporter who is following the case. Hoooooo boy this film is bleak and brutal. Depressing from the very first minute but so powerful. And it’s based on actual events. I definitely feel like I want to take a shower after watching this, but I’d probably put this in my top films of 2022. Denmark’s Oscar submission for foreign language film. It’s by the same director of Border, which I loved.

I dug up my Roku password (which I didn’t know was still active) but I have a FireTV. I loaded the Roku channel - no dice. I did find the MoviesTV app on my TV, but no sign of Vanishing Point. Lots of cool old movies, though.

Debating whether to watch RRR on Netflix or wait until it’s nationwide release (late March).

How should I see RRR the first time?

  • See it on Netflix
  • Wait until the Big Screen IMAX Dolby experience

Regardless, I’m gonna microdose and see Avatar again.

Why, yes, I am divorced, why do you ask?

I just voted, but I I wanted to add what I believe is a rhetorical question:

Do you want to see the full scene of this (and it’s not the most bonkers scene) on a big screen or a small screen?

Well, having seen it on the largest IMAX screen in the country, I will confidently say you should wait for the big screen experience! It was really like nothing else I have ever seen.

Daughter and I just finished watching watching Steve Jobs.

Good-God, I couldn’t wait for it to end. Drama scene after drama scene. I thought it was going to be about computers.

Saw Skinamarink tonight. Good God what a boring film. Actually it barely even qualifies as a film, it really felt more like an experimental art project. It was definitely tense and unnerving at times but I basically just watched 90 mins of grainy long shots of hallways and ceilings accompanied by static. If you think this is a slow burn horror leading to something, nope.

Lol, same planet, different worlds. I loved Steve Jobs and absolutely detested the other Steve Jobs film.

I almost watched this one, but I’m glad I skipped it.
