It vanished from my iPhone, anyway. I think they changed distribution companies on the podcast or something and a bunch got wiped. It’s probably out there somewhere.
It’s right here. They had the director on at some point to discuss her process. She basically hit the internet and asked on Punisher forums what they want to see and then she put it in the movie.
Ah, thank you! I did find this, but listened to the intro with Paul and I thought they were talking about HDTGM itself, and therefor didn’t catch the rest.
Yes, I am very far behind in watching certain movies.
I can’t stand Will Ferrell; he’s too juvenile for adult films and too adult for juvenile films. Plus, I dislike his face. Having said that, yesterday I watched Elf for the first time and he was about perfect in it. So was the rest of the cast. I can seriously add this to my List of Christmas Films I will re-watch again and again. Fun story, great supporting cast and I didn’t feel like throwing up (as Ferrell did IRL) at the end due to treacle. I highly recommend it.
Hey, if I wear a big, stupid elf suit and annoy random strangers on the street can I kiss Zooey Deschanel, too?
Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead, a movie I’ve seen before, but couldn’t remember how it ended up, nor the details. An outstanding cast (Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ethan Hawke, Marisa Tomei, Albert Finney) and a nicely twisted plot. Unfortunately, it left an unresolved story line at the end, but was otherwise a good watch.
Same here, and it doesn’t help that I’ve heard he’s an asshole IRL. The only thing he’s ever done that I’ve liked is his impression of G.W. Bush (I think on SNL) which was very effective because they both have similar-looking punchable faces. He was also good in the movie Strays, but there I didn’t have to actually see him; he was just the voice of the cute talking dog Reggie.
To me, the funniest bit in Elf (an Easter egg, got it off IMDb) is the name tag of the Gimbel’s manager – it says Wanda, because Wanda Sykes was supposed to have that role but she backed out and when Faizon Love got the part he insisted on wearing the name tag. BAFF!!
I think Will Ferrell is a great actor who unfortunately has ended up in a lot of stinker roles and repeating the same type of character over and over. I liked Barbie, but his character had no point in being in the movie and he was one of the weak points of the movie.
That reminds me of Wait Wait don’t tell me, where their scheduled guest could not make it so they had Stephen Colbert instead and asked him the same questions they were going to ask their original guest and had him guess who it was.
Anyway, back to movies: The Flash (2023). It had its moments, but on the whole fell flat for me, probably due a lot to the CGI which started it out bad even though it had an interesting idea. I enjoyed some of the banter and the story itself had some interesting aspects, but what was supposed to be the emotional punch of the story did not feel earned. I will likely not re-watch it.
The Suicide Squad (2021). This was brutal and fun. They really did not shy away from showing blood and gore when required. The interesting way they used background elements to form text was cool and the ensemble cast worked well together. I really like Idris Elba and he once again did a good job here. I was also surprised by some of the non-suicide interactions that occurred as well. Overall I enjoyed the time I took to watch it.
Some people try too hard to be funny. I rarely laugh at Will Farrell but I thought he was believable and had on screen chemistry with Maggie Gyllenhaal in Stranger Than Fiction.
Same with Jim Carey and The Truman Show or Adam Sandler in Uncut Gems.
Comedians and Rappers have a lot in common. They are both straightjacketed into expressing only a few emotions and that must be exhausting to always ‘perform being you’.
