MP says Planned Parenthood trying to 'get their snout back in the public trough'

Used to be every 4 years, but with the minority governments and more frequent elections, it’s now more like every 18 months.

I believe in sharing my jizz!

Keep that up, and you’ll end up being real Americans!

I’m not going to get into the KAIROS situation. But, I don’t know that CIDA has made funding decisions on those grant proposals yet. The Government says they haven’t, and this wouldn’t be the first time an MP shot off his mouth on something he was ignorant of just to flatter an interest group.

This his constituents should me made aware that he’s a lying, pandering asshole.

90% is close enough for someone to say ‘all’ without necessarily lying. It’s mere hyperbole.

If they do 47% abortions ans the person says ‘all’, then they are distorting facts.
Side-bar: Everything else PP do only amounts to 10%???

All the talk about PP and 90% of their work being abortions is referring to this other Pit thread where a US politician claimed 90% of their funding was spent on abortions but in reality it’s 3%.

My point was this: KAIROS got defunded by the Harper Government. A Conservative MP claimed that this was due to KAIROS criticism of Israel. The PMO leapt into action, and the official word from the government, as promulgated by Bev Oda, was that it was a routine funding decision made by CIDA and that the PMO had nothing to do with the situation.

And then it came out that CIDA did not actually recommend defunding KAIROS. CIDA did it on the orders of Minister Oda. Which gives a lot of credence to the original MP’s assertion that the defunding was politically motivated.

So my point, just to be clear, is that I see a lot of parallels in the KAIROS idiocy with this new IPP thing, and I think that it’s very likely that the MP knows exactly what he’s talking about. He’s just been running his mouth in a way that’s politically inconvenient for the Harper Government.

I really thought the U.S. had exclusive rights to the “backward hicks” group.

But what I’m saying is that we don’t even know if Planned Parenthood has been turned down yet, because who’s going to receive the money and not hasn’t been released. If it turns out that they were turned down, then we should ask whether it’s because of political purposes by Oda or not. But until we know if they have, it’s premature to ask that question.

I mean, how the hell is some Conservative backbencher privy to CIDA funding decisions? I mean, there’s the possibility he knows something we don’t, but it’s Brad Trosk, so there’s an equal possibility he’s just shooting off his mouth (he was the one who slammed Diane Ablonczy over funding the Toronto Pride Parade).

Conveniently for the Conservatives, the decision won’t be announced until after the election, yes?

As I recall, one year later the decision was explicitly taken out of Diane Ablonczy’s hands and funding was denied to the Toronto Pride Parade. You’re not exactly reassuring me here.

Every two years, unless you’re in Parliament, in which case it’s every day it meets.

It feels like a non sequitur for Trost to be bringing this up, because it isn’t really an issue here.

Now, that’s where your REAL socialists are hanging out. Bunch of green weenies.

Saskatchewan is the birthplace of Canadian socialism, actually.

He’s an MP - it should be understood.

Unfortunately, we also have our share. And sometimes they get their names in the newspapers.

I assume it is for the “Saskatchewan Pro-life Association”, at least, even if it’s not for anyone else.

And here’s Planned Parenthood’s response:

BTW, here’s the transcript of his actual speech:

We should sue!

Nope, there are strong pro-life movements in most free countries.
Most of them haven’t gotten anywhere, but abortion is a touchy subject in lots of countries.

I am so glad you posted this. I know that anti-abortionists are nortorious liars, but that is too fucking much!

It may seem like an American meme… but I really did have a Canadian boyfriend. We met at a soccer tournament in Minneapolis. He was super hot and a great kisser. And he was from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Carry on…

Ah, had I known you weren’t aware of it, I would have told the fascinating story.

It’s gotten HUGE press here, not so much because of the lie but because of the the response of senator Kyle’s office when they were called on it. Their response was that “his remark was not intended to be a factual statement”. Stephen Colbert had fun with this over two or three programs, and Jon Stewart as well. AND it started internet, Facebook, and Twitter to-dos resulting in thousands of comments on Kyle that “are not intended to be factual statements”. It’s been very entertaining.
