In a statistic so fucked up I can’t begin to tell you what’s wrong with it, an anti-abortion brochure I got states in big bold letters that “Up to 60% of women who have had abortions have comtemplated suicide.”
The little tiny reference is from a 1990 study. A 1990 study that was published in the Journal of Adolescent Psychology. So they couldn’t find a fmore recent study that was done with all ages of women?
BTW, I’m sure that any adolscent forced into an abortion can become suicidal. Ditto forced to carry a child to term and give it up for adoption.
I wonder how that little stat compares with the percentage of all teenagers who have contemplated suicide (not committed, not attempted, contemplated)for one reason or another. Hell, the grand majority of people probably did - entering into adulthood is pretty much the moment you decide whether or not this whole “life” business is worth bothering with, isn’t it ?
Every time I hear one of our conservative senators or representatives wailing about the “50 million little aborted babies since Roe v. Wade”, I think, how wonderful! Because this country must already be doing a superb job handling the population of 300M we already have. There’s ample good jobs for the young graduates every year, and all the public schools, where no classroom has more than 20 students, are all first rate. Everyone has access to routine medical care, hospitalization, and surgery as needed. And although poverty’s been eliminated, if we did still have it, it would not affect children more than any other age group.
How did I not notice this? Why didn’t someone tell me?
