MPSIMS Dopers: We need a new term

We know what a hot thread is.
We know what a cold thread is.
We know what a locked thread is.

Any thread not posted to for awhile, gradualy drops down the first page, pops over to the second page and dies.
Some threads get 15 responses, from 15 different posters, in 15 minutes.
Others are on the front page for five days with only seven posts.

We now know how many views a thread has received, and it astounds me that there is at least one thread that has one post but 68 views!
There’s one with 432 views and only 48 posts.

What are we gonna call a thread that everyone has checked out, but few have posted to?

Hmmm, let’s see.

A Read & Run Thread? RRT, for short?

For irony’s sake, I beg everyone not to post to this topic.

Seriously though, I submit ‘well-named thread’ or ‘question about Cecil or Slug thread’.

Howbout we call it a ‘sinker’?

My vote would be a “driveby thread”.

Prom Queen.

A “view-only” thread?

A “chance-glance”? (CG thread, for short)

A peek-a-boo?
I like “driveby” too

Wow, my own “driveby thread” was mentioned. That’s a start, at least. It has TWO posts now…I added another one.

Please be my guest to follow the link to it that ChiefScott provided and view it for yourselves, but be sure to not actually post anything. We can’t have that.

Since most of the time it’s the title of the thread that catches most people’s attention, why not call it a “Caught My Eye” thread or “CME” Thread for short.

I like Drive By Thread.

How about: Low Post Count.

I’ve always thought of the High Views but Low Post Count sort like the Weekly World News. Everyone reads its, but few will admit to it.

two votes for ‘drive-by’ and I like ‘read and run’, so two for that.

I’ve got one over in General Questions that has 458 views and only 14 posts. A glance at other “high-view” threads in GQ and MPSIMS shows that I am the current low-post-per-view champeen in the “over 400 views” category.

I agree that a new term would be welcome.

How 'bout a “Pam Anderson” thread. Looks great from a distance, but when you get up close–bleeah! Or Good to look at, but not someplace you want to, ahem, leave your mark.

Am I being gross? Sorry.

I vote for drive-by thread. It seems I have started a bunch of those.

HUGS!

PS. I am attempting to get all the last responses to be me on the board. (HEHEHE, I am giddy with anticipation.)

I should say, before you all chime in with your calculations, that I only looked at the threads on the first page of each forum.

As someone who does a lot of this, I like the drive-by label too.

How about a POST? (Piece Of Shit Thread)

:::snicker:::Pamela Anderson Thread does make me chuckle.

Well, it might not actually be a bad thread. Perhaps in some of these threads the OP is so concise and articulate that there is simply nothing more to be said.

(Yes, I’ve started a couple myself…)

I vote for “driveby.” It’s not the best analogy, of course, since the point of an actual driveby is to make a point rather than pass unnoticed. But what the heck, it’s catchy.

Catrandom

I vote for drive-by.

Although “read and run” has a nice ring to it. Maybe we could use “R&R” for short?

Hey! I like Wonko’s “sinker” idea myself, (I’ve contributed my fair share of Inky Sinkers in my day).

The ones on the front page all week with a feeble ten or eleven are Submarines: sinking and rising, sinking and rising.
