Well dang! Newz to me! I always pictured the Pit as the place for being angry. Y’know, flaming, mudsligning, mutual insult fests, stuff like that. So silly cutesy parodies go there too? I guess I missed that rule, but I never would have guessed.
If I ever have an urge to post a silly harmless parody, I wouldn’t think of the Pit as a place to put it. Now that I know, I probably . . . just . . . wouldn’t.
ETA: Is the problem with the “gallows humor” nature of it?
I think the large number of parody threads which have not gone in the Pit mean this rule needs to be revised. As far as I can tell, the original idea was that a “parody thread” was a thread parodying another thread on this board, and thus was an attack on the OP of that thread. This does not seem to apply in this case or in many other cases which have been allowed.
My recollection agrees with BigT’s, that “parody” meant making fun of other threads (hence indirectly insulting, however humorously, another poster.) However, the mods are now discussing this. (I just wanted to be sure that there is a mod response early so that y’all know that we’re talking behind the scenes.)
panach45 is (I think) mocking some gun control arguments by applying them to pressure cookers. It looks like pseudotriton ruber ruber responded to the ATMB thread about misogyny by starting a thread about beating up a woman. That’s not parody, it’s trolling.
