Keep the name.
There have always been threads that were very obviously neither mundane nor pointless. Many of them have been some of the most visited threads (Tokyo Player’s threads about Ian and Beta-chan come to mind).
I like The Water Cooler.
I agree with the OP, and have long thought the title is inappropriate given some of the forum’s content.
I have no particular preference for a replacement, anything is fine if it doesn’t contain either of “mundane” or"pointless".
Thank you, SiX – ignorance fought. In Buck Godot the gigantic spacestation that serves as sort of a intergalactic UN for thousands of space-faring civilizations is named the Gallimaufry. I never tried looking up the word as I had merely assumed Phil Foglio had just made it up. Silly me.
For what it’s worth, I started one of the threads mentioned in the OP, and I didn’t care what the forum was called. It didn’t even occur to me, honestly.
I guess it’s a little too pretentious though. It’s getting outpaced by water cooler for Og’s sake.

That was never solved, right? Like… We came to the agreement that it was someone’s clever and evil attempt at trolling? A fool’s errand?
Oh, and keep the MPSIMS… Sometimes I use it IRL. “Oh, yeah, I was rambling there, it was em, pee, sims.”
People wonder and I don’t usually explain.
It’s never going to be solved conclusively, but I found “14 k(ilos) of g(rass) in a F(ord) p(arked) d(owntown)” the most plausible.
So **Marley23 **are you seeing any trends in this thread? Enough to make a more prominent thread in IMHO about a name change?
It looks like a compromise that retained the **MPSIMS **but changed the **MP **portion to other words would satisfy nearly everyone that has commented. The **Miscellaneous/Personal **pair is one such change from Mundane Pointless
The mods did talk about it earlier in the week. Everybody who weighed in preferred to keep the name the way it is.
Well if that is true it seems like you might as well close this thread as we are just spinning our wheels. (I hope that doesn’t come out Jr modding, I am just suggesting.)
I like Randy Seltzer’s idea. Plus it really is delicious irony. Most of us have forgotten, I think, just how cute we found the whole thing when we first heard it. It’s a little old to all of us now, but it will be good for a chuckle for every new Doper. Let’s not lose any chuckles. This world is hard enough as it is.
You know, I used to care a lot about that too. Then I discovered meditation, switched meds, and found a purpose to my life, and I must say I’m a lot happier now. YMMV.

Late as usual, but I vote for no change…
I vote for no change- I like community history. It doesn’t take much for me to understand that no one thinks the loss of a loved or the such is mundane or pointless, it’s just a forum name based on a long history of the board.
Not to mention, trademark litigation.
I can get behind either Miscellaneous Personal Stuff I Must Share or just Stuff I Must Share.
It would have more activity than The Barn House or any SDMB Chicago forum.

Well, you seemed to be suggesting that if a forum did not get much activity there would be little point in having it. Is that not accurate?
Hi Neighbor is merely pointing out that there are other forums that do not get much activity, and no one is getting rid of them.
And I’d say, again, that this has nothing to do with anything. We were talking about changing the name of a forum, then someone suggested adding one - not getting rid of them.
