Mr. Robot on USA network

They’re not all reaching out to him because he’s so charismatic:

[ul]
[li]Angela, the blonde coworker, grew close to him because they both had parents die at a young age and have been friends since. A lot of people will overlook weird or distant behavior from longtime friends that if an acquaintance did instead they’d be annoyed by it. [/li][li]Ollie, Angela’s boyfriend (now ex-boyfriend) wouldn’t normally have anything to do with Elliot, but was reaching out to him because Elliot’s a good friend of Angela, and so he knew that he should at least be able to be friendly to him. Totally normal for a guy who’s trying to be a good boyfriend.[/li][li]I think that Shayla, the promiscuous drug dealer, was the type to just become friends with almost anyone. She didn’t introduce herself to Elliot, she just demanded that he open up his door and let her in so she could put the fish from the broken tank somewhere. Shayla also spent an entire day doing drugs and hanging out with Angela and she’d never met her before. She seems the type to just sit down by you at a restaurant and start talking like y’all were already in the middle of a conversation, even though you’d never met before. Also Elliot is an attractive guy, it’s not mind-boggling that an attractive woman his age would want to sleep with him. [/li][li]Gideon, his gay boss, is shown as one of the few overall good people on the show. He’s concerned about Elliot because Gideon is a good person. And also Elliot is a very smart, valuable employee, so even if he wasn’t a good person, he’d want to check in as a good boss.[/li][li]Tyrell, the suit guy, just sees Elliot as a possible resource. I’m pretty sure that Tyrell only sees people as how they can be useful to him or not, and Elliot is someone who could be useful.[/li][/ul]

I think all the characters are well written and well acted. Elliot is a great center for the show, and I like how he’s portrayed and how the unreliable narrator stuff is done, but there are a bunch of great supporting characters. I can’t wait for the finale.

Oh my gosh! That is so bizarre! Thank you.

Yes. Another good reason. Thank you.

Also to establish he was more interested in justice than material gain.

You probably will not be surprised. But, IMDB rates this show 9.1.

I don’t remember the last time I saw IMDB rate a TV show above 9. It’s an indication to me this show is special. IMDB does not throw out ratings above 9.0 for no special reason.

What’s the point? Well, … Pluck a Duck! IMO, you definitely picked a winner to fawn over. I want to fawn too. Well done!

I hope you realize that the rating of 9.1 isn’t the IMDB making some objective valuation of the program’s worth; it’s the average of reader ratings. 53,846 of them to be precise.

BTW, here’s the IMDB list of the top 250 shows. Thirty are 9.0 or better.

OK. Still, 30 is a fairly small number as compared to 250.

But for me, the more subjective test is that I often go looking at IMDB ratings for TV shows and it’s a real surprise whenever I find one that is above 9. I just hardly ever see TV shows get rated at 9.0 or higher. It is very, very rare to see that.

Do you see it often? It may not be a very good way to rate a movie. But I sure get a kick out of seeing any TV show rated above 9.0.

Finale tonight

Tonight? My DVR has it listed for tomorrow, in the regular time slot it’s occupied since it started: Wednesday at 10pm.

It’s simply character development, and establishes a lot of Elliot’s qualities. Great start to the show, and no need to drag it out.

Also, while Eliot is a great at tactics, he’s not the strategy man. At this point he has no long-term goal, and he’s not the manipulative type. That’s Mr Robot.

Which turns out to be Elliot, but it makes sense to separate this side of himself from his conscious self.

I was taken by surprise by the twist, so I’m clearly not as perceptive as you guys. That seemed to me to contradict, for example the scenes where Robot is alone with another character. It never occurred to me that that was really Elliot. I’m going to have to rewatch!

Right: they all have thir own motives, and they’re rather diverse. Elliot isn’t charismatic at all, rather, he’s very off-putting. Yet he’s remarkable enough due to his abilities (and perversely, sometimes his personality) to draw the attention of the others.

Finale was last night and IMO was really a letdown after how great the season had been. I expected this show to be better than the whole “You must wait until next season to know what happens!” bullshit.

Really disappointed.

So was the Asian guy meeting with the E-Corp CEO at the end, the cross-dresser from the Chinese hacker organization that met with Elliot a few weeks ago?

Yes, that was BD Wong.

Now why he was dressed as a women in his earlier scenes… no idea.

There’s a great little interview with the creator of the show here that may clear up some apparent anomalies.

Thanks for the link. At one point, the show’s creator says, “There is a specific reason I named him Elliot, which I won’t get into, because it’s a little bit of a spoiler.” Anyone have any idea what he’s referring to?

I sort of agree, but really we know most of what happens. We just don’t know what happened between Elliot and Tyrell. I loved the music in the episode, as always, specially Old Dirty Bastards “baby i got your money” during the fsociety party. Tyrell’s wife is beautiful to the point of distraction, how is she not more famous?

I don’t know but I think there may be a connection with his telling that Danish/Swedish wife his name was “Ollie”. They are almost anagrams.

So beautiful I was hoping she would become a major figure in this show.

What are the odds she killed Tyrell and dumped his body? She was made to look like a much stronger player than him. She never said much (in English). But what she said was so powerful.

“If you want to continue being a member of this family, you will have to fix this”

Well, it doesn’t seem like he fixed it and it also seems like if you look at her face during her brief encounter with Elliot, there was a real good chance she was covering up for something or hiding something.

I have to disagree with people who didn’t like this episode. I thought it was wunnerful. But, you must appreciate that I am a sucker when it comes to great shows. And this seems to me to be a truly great show.

According to IMDB she had her first role in 2013 so she’s just getting started.
