Mr. Sterling doesn't know immigration law

And neither do I!

For those of you who have not yet seen Mister Sterling, it’s a pretty good series. Friday nights on NBC, eight o’clock.

Stars Josh Brolin who I remember from The Young Riders when he played James Hickok.

i dunno…
living in about 45 minutes outside of dc, and going to college there, growing up in the shadow of the government, the show doesn’t really appeal to me… i mean, if you like it’s that’s great and more power to you, but i’m still waiting for an honest portrayal of the city… the west wing comes close, and i tend to watch it religiously, but even still, there’s yet to have been a really great show about dc, political or not…

steps down from soapbox

I had a really bad attitude about it from the previews, but I gave it a chance and now I like it.

I’m sure it’s just a pathetic attempt to assuage my pain and distress over the real state of government, but I’m ok with that.

I watch this show and think it’s pretty good in that warm fuzzy feel good portrayal of government way that WW often is.

I just had to post because for some reason the page listing threads, thread starter, last post, etc. said this thread was started by Bricker but the OP seems, on my computer screen anyway, to have been by silentgoldfish. I was confuzzled.

Hmmm. The OP vanished.

It was a comment on last night’s episode, which turned on the fact that a person waiting for their green card had no way to leave the country and return.

But there is such a way.

I was much more elaborate the first time around.

Aw, give poor Mister Sterling a break, he’s only been a senator for a few weeks.

Oh wait. He’s supposed to have been an attorney before teaching in prison, right? Carry on slagging him then, because as Rick can attest, all attorneys are equally well-versed in all areas of law and assistant district attorneys are all experts in federal immigration law.

[MST3K] Just repeat to yourself it’s just a show, I should really just relax. [/MST3K]

You made me curious. What is the way to leave the country and return, other than the way Sterling did it by trying to reason with the Commissioner?

Oh, if Sterling the character didn’t know immigration law, I’d be fine with that.

Sterling THE SHOW suggested there was absolutely no way to leave the country and return legally – an opinion offered up by the “Director of the Enforcement Division” and the INS Comissioner.

It was critical to the plot.

But in reality, a person with a pending application for permanant residency may apply for “Advance Parole”. This document permits re-entry without any negative impact on the residency application.

I know this from personal experience; Mrs. Bricker needed advance parole to return here after our Christmas jaunt to the DR.
