Mr. Tighten and Mr. Button

Between the ages of about 8 and 13 I had a friend who moved away after that. He had a habit of jokingly calling people ‘Mr Tighten’ or ‘Mr. Button’, as in, ‘What do you think you’re doing, Mr. Button?’ Actually at the time I thought it was ‘Mr Titan’ and ‘Mr. Butt’n’, but now it sounds more like something you say to a baby when you’re dressing him. I wonder if it could have been something his mother had said to him when he was a baby.

Has anyone ever heard these expressions? My friend’s family came from Minnesota, if that helps.

Mr. Burford!
I never heard about Messrs. Tighten and Button, but I’m reminded of a Dick Van Dyke Show episode where Rob Petrie’s brother, played by Jerry Van Dyke, called everybody Mr. Burford when he was sleepwalking.

 Egad! A hijack on the first reply. I suppose that’s not polite. Sorry.
