MrBeast's "Beast Games" Vegas shoot an unmitigated disaster, say local staff

The prominent Youtuber recently conducted a three-day shoot at Allegiant Stadium for the first part of a Squid Game-esque competition series he’s producing for Amazon. The 2,000 entrants were required to live and sleep in the stadium over the course of the shoot, and according to locals who were hired to accomodate the contestants, the entire production was an utter clusterfuck of Grand Guignol proportions, including;

  • Overflowing port-a-potties
  • Employees unequipped for human waste disposal being threatened into cleaning up said overflows
  • Contestants forced to wear trash bags after having their clothes and belongings confiscated
  • Lost/mishandled medication, undergarments, and personal belongings
  • Staff not provided with adequate equipment or information
  • Starving contestants begging for food of which there was little
  • General understaffing
  • Production schedules being changed at the last minute on MrBeast’s whim and because apparently nobody realized they couldn’t control the lighting on an outdoor set if they shot in the daytime
  • Contestants being threatened by MrBeast’s staff for trying to comply with the terms of their contract
  • Medics having to steal costumes because MrBeast didn’t want them visible on set
  • Problems with food distribution leading to 800 meals going to waste out of 1200 purchased
  • Staff surreptitiously donating thousands of unused sleeping bags to local homeless shelters to stop them from getting thrown out
  • Contestants lying about their medical status to get onto the show, resulting in medics having to deal with people with needs they weren’t prepared for

Channel 3’s expose on the shoot can be read here;

And here’s the testimony of an anonymous contestant;

Sounds like an utter cock-up on the scale of Fyre Fest or Woodstock or the Channel Awesome movie shoots - people with big ambitions, too much money, and not enough sense, attempting to put on a massive production with no idea of how to handle the logistical side of things in general. I’m not the right demographic for MrBeast and I don’t think I’ve ever watched one of his videos, but if I were one of his sponsors I’d definitely think twice about wanting to be associated with him after reading about this.

Maybe I’m missing something, but doesn’t Allegiant Stadium have enough bathrooms for 65,000 people who have been drinking beer for hours?

Isn’t Allegiant Stadium a dome?

I’m not saying any of your claims are wrong. I have no idea who MrBeast is, but he just sounds like the kind of person who could screw up something that badly.

Mr Beast, claims of an ex-employee (so big o’ block of salt), and other legal concerns with his efforts to date on Legal Eagle.

Never been there, but I get the impression that the dome isn’t opaque and the natural light filters through.

In the stands, yes, but I gather that those weren’t readily accessible to the people being made to sleep on the field. This is what the Channel 3 article says;

That’s probably exactly what Mr. Beast said. You are now almost as qualified to run a large production as he is.

This it what the interior looks like during daylight.

Twelve port-a-potties for two-thousand people sounds way insufficient. If I was one of those people, I’d be looking for a path into the stands and towards the bathrooms for visitors or even the team locker rooms, which are going to have showers.

Okay. If it’s a sunny day, leave the lights off; if it clouds over a bit, and there’s less natural light coming in, turn on some of the lights.

I wonder what the point of that was. Why rent a stadium and then pay more to bring in port-a-potties? Just make it part of the rental agreement that you get access to some bathrooms.

It sounds like whatever sort of show MrBeast was trying to stage required that no one leave the playing field. I don’t see how it would have made much difference if they’d extended that zone somewhat to include a few rooms with plumbing.

I’m sure everything will go perfectly now that they’ve moved to Toronto.

Is this a restaging of that documentary, “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?”?

FWIW, the anonymous contestant in the Atozy video says the Canadian side of the production was much better, which he attributes to Amazon being directly involved at that point.

I was thinking it sounded like some cut-rate Survivor clone; 2,000 people on a football field rubbing sticks together to try and start a fire.

Wow. It sounds like it could be Season 3 of the original Squid Game.

From what I’m seeing online, the general rule of thumb is one porta-john for every 50 people you expect to accomodate, so they should’ve had at least 40 for the 2,000 contestants, and that’s not even accounting for the staff who must have numbered in the low hundreds.

If 12 is all they provided then I can easily see how they could’ve overflowed onto the field where people were trying to sleep.
