Mrs. Bush's cookie vs Mrs. Kerry's cookie

You’ve just never tried my great-aunt Gina’s famous oatmeal chocolate chip cookies (a family reunion legend!). YUM.

I’m surprised that Heinz-Kerry’s cookies aren’t made with ketchup.

All ye heed the word, for twickster speaketh the truth.

Chocolate chips have no business being anywhere near oatmeal cookies. I don’t care even if it does taste good. It’s. Just. Not. Done.

I think some of you are failing to notice something of enormous importance in Mrs. Bush’s recipe.

Cherries? Sour cherries? DRIED sour cherries? Forgive me, but that doesn’t belong anywhere near a normal, healthy, American cookie. I think Bush loses major points for the cherries.

Chocolate chip-oatmeal cookies are wonderful! Oatmeal cookies just plain suck, but add some oatmeal to chocolate chip cookies and some wonderful fusion happens.

However, dried cherries make the baby Jesus cry.

You know, I’m not into this domesticity anyway. I would much rather vote for a potential first lady who firmly declared that she wasn’t into baking.

If you hate 'em so much, then why don’t you move to Canadia?!?!? You terrorist!!!

You know that John Kerry actually started a cookie company with a college pal or something that’s still going? I just now learned this. He’s no longer involved, but still. Go figure.

THANK you.

Does this thing strike anyone else as vaguely sexist? Or maybe just lame. Or maybe just Typical First Ladyness (which does not, btw, exclude lame). Not that I don’t love baking cookies myself, but come on. Clearly all these ladies have to offer is their cookie recipes.

I can’t wait for the day when we have a female presidential candidate. Who’s married. People won’t have a clue how to deal with a guy as potential First Spouse.

For one thing, what the hell would we call him?

Heck yeah! I mean, I know it’s not like a public position, but seriously: how much time did Eleanor Roosevelt spend baking cookies? Why are we telling our first ladies to get their asses back in the kitchen?

Presumably “Bill”.

Forget the keyboard. I just spit tea all over the cat.
Ah, one can only hope…

It’s certainly old-fashioned. And yeah, I’d say it’s a bit sexist too.

First Gentleman?
