MS Flight Simulator 2020

I have officially added this to my waitlist on Isthereanydeal.com to buy it when it comes down.

Nice thanks Raza.

I gave it a try. I uploaded it to Streamable which kinda kicked the video quality in the balls (and sound didn’t record right at all so there is almost none) but here is my first try. Let me know if I got the right place or not: https://streamable.com/3qicor

My wife and I appreciate you doing this. We don’t see the school, but we did in the picture. I have circled in blue our apartment we lived in, which was on campus. The High School had a big track and the elementary had a little track.

You can see both tracks and all the buildings here in your pic.

We can’t find that stuff in your video. If you want to give it another shot, we were thrilled just to see the TEDA region like that from the “air”.

Ok, I had another go. I apologize for the quality of the camera work (which is atrocious). Not to mention this video host cutting my resolution in half.

I am still getting used to the controls and drone and flying and so on. Definite learning curve there. Also, the sound is borked so just turn the volume down (an issue with recording like I did…for me the sound was fine while in the simulation).

All of that said I think I got your spot. Let me know: https://streamable.com/r24j8y

You did! Amazing! I haven’t really seen it since 2005, but my wife and I can see our apartment and that whole area with the two tracks was our school. Thank you so much!

I am curious how close you think it is to the real thing (granting you have not been there in 15 years)?

Pretty spot on. The building was a $200 million* school facility and it really hasn’t changed much. My wife and I can see where we lived and the path I walked on to get to work daily.

This game is so cool, I’m going to have to grab it when it goes on sale. I hope it drops under $30 in the next…while.

*Dude who built it took a $1 billion loan from the World Bank for the specific purpose of using it for educational purposes in Tianjin and Beijing region of China. He used some for the school and used the rest for his businesses on the theory he could pay back the loan and never get caught.

I looked him up and it appears he got away with it. Sold the school many years ago.

H’m. I’m not much good at such things, but this is tempting me.
I’ve got an i5-10400 (2.90 GHz) CPU, 16GB of RAM, and will soon have an Nvidia 2070 Super. Wonder how well it’ll run?

I am running an i7-4790K (overclocked to 4.4 ghz) 16 GB RAM, 2070 super, a 3440x1440 ultrawide, TrackIR, and I am hitting mid 50s+ fps at High-end settings. I have followed some of the guides on performance not to chase 60+ fps, but to up the pretty factor as much as possible while staying above 30 fps.
That said, apparently performance for machines with the same specs can vary wildly and hopefully will be addressed in future updates.

I think you will find that i5 to be your bottleneck.

I can not say for certain but I would be surprised if MS FS 2020 ran well on that. Many are saying that this simulator is the new Crysis (a game that slams systems).

I have a good PC and it runs well but not super duper well. I can hear my fans spooling up to keep things cool (which is rare for me).

That said, you could give it a try and return it does not work well (or use the Game Pass). Know that it is a 91GB download though.

Check with who you buy it from for their return policy.

Performance: to throw in another data point, I have:
i7 8700k CPU
RTX 2060 (original, not super)
16 Gb RAM, SSD

I was getting 25-35 fps, which with near-zero stuttering actually is quite enjoyable.
But I followed some tuning guides (including areas like power management that you’d think would have no impact on a desktop, but do), and without downgrading my graphics settings I’m up 5-15 fps.

I’ve read that the airliners tend to have lower fps (perhaps due to glass cockpits; it’s alleged they are very computation-intensive) than light aircraft, and that jives with my experience.

119 Deane Avenue
Oakville, Ontario, Canada

Your place is hard to find. Not a lot of landmarks from the air aside from that river. I hope I got it: https://streamable.com/utrkze

You passed just to the east of it - like, maybe by a few hundred yards, so hell of a job. (Southern Ontario is definitely lacking in much terrain, and Oakville has no major landmarks.) The program has, oddly, taken a number of buildings and drawn them at a 45-degree angle to how they actually are, including my house, itself unrecognizably different. It threw a 4-storey apartment block down at the corner of Deane and Kerr, too.

Still, that is recognizably, obviously Oakville. The double baseball diamond is across the street from my place. The big freeway just north of there is the QEW, and that huge industrial building you see off to the east is a Ford assembly plant.

How about 3480 Upper Middle Road, Burlington, Ontario? (I swear this is the last one)

Not sure how close I got (I don’t mind doing this, it’s kinda fun but also harder than it seems to do well): https://streamable.com/uitlij

You can search the flight plan map for specific GPS points and set those are your start or end location. That makes it very easy to find a particular spot.

Damn close. You passed about 400 metres west of it. I can make out all kinds of recognizable buildings.

Is this thing the RAM beast I’ve read it could be? I’ve 16, have the slots for 32, see two more sticks of DDR-4-3200 RAM like I have in it already, on sale at Microcenter…

5700XT and Ryzen 7 at 3800 MHz should be fine for 1080p, I’d think. I have M2 SSD room to load it.

Looks great in the articles I’ve seen about it so far.
