msmith537, What is your major malfunction?

Does that mean women are either funny or crave meat? This is very confusing.

Please…every woman should be treated as badly as my girlfriend.

Look…you obviously have a lot of man-baggage that has absolutely nothing with me occassional being a jerk anonymously. To keep things in perspective, you appear to have speant a lot of time digging through my old posts in order to satisfy some long-standing percieved grudge while I really don’t remember your user name at all. Also remember that this is a message board and I can easily tune out your insults just as you should be tuning me out if you don’t like my posts.

Beside, since I’m a man, I’m only going to hear what I what to hear anyway:

Thanks!! My goat-ass hat is quite fetching!

(see)

Just to clarify, I don’t mean I abuse my girlfriend and want to do the same to all women.

Are you saying Maureen has balls, and big ones at that?

Sweetie, I do not flatter myself by thinking I represent all women. Nor do I think you have anything against me in particular. Just women in general. And, on this board, we are encouraged to call people on their behavior when they’re acting like jerks. As I’m not allowed to use the word that springs immediately to mind when I think of you, I’ll have to settle for “jerk.”

You do realize I am on your side in all this. Besides for a Pitting this isn’t going to bad for you.

Woman, I do not care how many issues we disagree on. I still think you kick ass.

I was sincerely hoping you wouldn’t be offened by my 14 year-old-boy sense of humor. I mean, come one, dude said ‘man-baggage’. I’m still giggling over here!

Stop. Stop. You’re making my stomach hurt.

Yeah sure…now if I had said it…

Yeah, she’s probably on the rag, too.

Sorry, I forgot my rolleyes smiley. Cause, you know, Maureen and a bunch of other posters (including me) being tired of your sexist act couldn’t possibly have anything to do with you.

Hello, McFly? As I already stated, in a point by point post, I don’t see the misogyny in those links. So if I’m to take you at your word, he’s been a good boy for the last 6 months. Hardly a compelling argument.

Ah, so I’m beyond reason, am I? Funny, I was just thinking the same thing about you.

Really? Always? Consistent? And yet I disagree with your evidence, so in my eyes, you are guilty of being disingenuous, exagerating, or are simply being willfully deceitful. I don’t need a long list. Just a few would suffice. Please, provide evidence. But apparently it’s going to all be from longer than 6 months ago. Hold a grudge much?

I don’t give a fuck who’s defending whom; I’ll call out behavior from anybody. Whereas you, OTOH, seem to take the same message differently depending on who posts it.

I stumbled across this thread and just thought of the irony of it all. I used to know msmith537 in real life because we worked together. In fact, I believe that he found this board because he saw me reading it at work. The irony was that the company we worked for was one of the “100 Best Companies for Working Mothers” and women in general in America. We were surrounded by females from the higher ups to the lower downs. I certainly don’t remember msmith537 having any trouble relating to any of them on a professional or even a friendly level. It sure is easy to create a new personality for someone on a message board in your own mine based on a few comments. I am about as pro-female as a male can be and I can even see some truth in some of the comments.

What the hell does that mean?

In my case, it means that I was raised by my mother, have one of those “independent women” for a wife, one daughter, and another daughter about to be born in less than two weeks. I didn’t know that I was going to have a write a dissertation on my upbringing and political and social views in order to explain it.

Wow, so you’ve got female relatives. Bully for you. So have plenty of misogynists, in case you hadn’t noticed.

I’m not saying you are one, only that using the term “pro-female” and pointing to the fact that you have a mother, a wife, and daughters does not, by itself, constitute much evidence of anything.

I find it doubtful I could “prove” such a thing if I tried. I was simply providing background details that may support it much like an author might do in literature.

msmith537 isn’t a misogynist. People here are simply trying to create an embellished and fictionalized version of an abstract character that is.

The problem is that you citing your personal acquaintance with him really doesn’t actually change very much. People on this message board only know him by what he writes here, and can really only judge him based on what they read.

In this thread, there are some who believe that his writings on this message board suggest that he’s a misogynist; there are others who are defending him from the charge, based on their own reading of his posts. But, whomever you agree with, the fact is that a member of a forum such as this must be judged by what they say on that forum, not based on some third party reference who happened to work with him some time ago.

By the way, there’s absolutely no “irony” in the fact that you and msmith537 used to work for “one of the ‘100 Best Companies for Working Mothers’ and women in general in America.” It’s completely irrelevant; you don’t get credit by association just because you happened to work for a company that treats women well. There is absolutely no necessary correlation between that fact and msmith’s own beliefs about women.

Why not? Academics analyze an author’s background all the time to understand his or her writings and motivations. msmith537’s writings were being critiqued so I decided to share that little tidbit of background that was directly relevant to the way that I read the selected quotes.
