msmith537, What is your major malfunction?

You thought his jokes in the joke thread crossed the line? As in, you thought they were serious statements, not intended to be jokes?

Are you whooshing me?

I thought they had an uncalled-for nasty tone, since they were directed at a specific poster. Putting words in her mouth, and all.

And how was it different from the contributions of [post=6097332]Priceguy[/post], [post=6097862]Shodan[/post], and [post=6097925]Happy Scrappy Hero Pup[/post]?

Thanks for making me reread that thread, btw, because I still find it funny as hell. I note that the end of it was an a group of women posters chiming in that they thought the thread was funny and not offensive at all. I’m guessing they aren’t the same posters in this thread.

I guess I just don’t see it. Mind you, this is coming from a person that cracks misogynistic jokes all the time. I laughed my ass off at Family Guy when Peter said “Of course a man made it, its not a delicious turkey dinner”. However when you make fun of someone in a way that they clearly dislike then it isn’t funny and is just mean. For example if you complained that people made fun of you for being Jewish it would be really fucking rude and meanspirited to crack a covetous Jew joke two minutes later. That doesn’t mean all Jew jokes are inappropiate or that I find Cartman offensive.

When I detect a latent intent of mean-spirited insulting jokes are just not funny. That post goes beyond latent and is just screaming mean-spirited assholishness.

They were using the format of the thread to strike at ** Elysian **'s argument not attack her personally. Shodan included a  at the end of the post so it was clear he was joking. To me it is much less clear that ** msmith ** was joking and to me appears that he is being at least somewhat meanspirited.

I didn’t like that either. When people keep ganging up on someone and telling them they can’t take a joke, it’s not a joke.

And, what treis said.

Well, the poster on the receiving end of the personal jokes from four different posters in that thread pissed all over the harmless joke thread, so I don’t see the response from those four posters as out of line.

P.S: Did you get my email from a couple days ago, treis?

You guys are fast; your replies weren’t there when I posted. (I swear!)

Nope, just…stupid. And they weren’t all that original or clever, either.

Interestingly enough, I had to stop watching Family Guy re-runs on Adult Swim because of Peter. Well, not really because of Peter but more because Lois. How she remains in love with such a boorish, selfish, corpulent moron is really asking me to suspend a bit too much disbelief.

Ah well, I still find the lines I quoted pretty fucking funny. To each his own, and all that jazz.

Gosh, why did it take me so long to come in this thread?

I find msmith to be hateful. His comments in the thread were personal attacks. I already disliked him before he became so personal, and after that I determined that he is a diseased pustule of a human being. I refused to give him any more of my time or attention. I left that thread because he would have parroted back, like a four-year-old, everything I would say, and I don’t play stupid childish games like that. If people find him funny, that’s okay, because people everywhere find assholes to be funny because they are partly assholes themselves.

And now I am done with this thread, and done with that thread, permanently. Go ahead and call me a humorless whining bitch. It can’t touch me because I know the source.

Poor technique?

Now, that was funny, Finn dear.

See, I find his jokes to be the equivalent of “yo mama!” If you really want to make over the top, satirical misogynist jests, go all the way. Like, “Woman are evil whores whose only purpose should be sex slaves and maids. Chain 'em up in the kitchen in nothing but heels and an apron, fuck 'em and beat em. Yup.”

Or just, whatever. Otherwise, the guy sounds like a rerun of “Live at the Improv!” from 1992. It’s been done.

Somehow I don’t think that means what I think it means…

I can’t speak for others in the thread, but this is true for me.

I still fail to see why people are getting so worked up about msmith537.

What, that you find him funny or that you do so because you’re partly an asshole yourself?

Both.

Because he insists on perpetuating inaccurate, harmful stereotypes. I don’t like it when women bash men, and I don’t like it when men bash women. It doesn’t contribute anything to the world.

And for the record, I try not to be an asshole.

Stipulated. As previously mentioned in a different thread, I have a bad habit of not backing away from pissing contests. I’ll try to not find offense where none is meant. However, I still believe that in msmith’s case, offense is meant.
