MSN Messenger error

I couldn’t find this question in the search so I presume it has never been asked before:

I get an error when I try to download MSN messenger 6. It is error 1601.

I read that I should go into Start -> run and type “msiexec /unreg” then “msiexec /regserver,” but that didn’t work. I have spent a good while trying to figure this problem out so any help would be much appreciated.

I have Windows 2000 Professional. I think I also get the same error when I try to download Kazaa… that or 1603.

I believe 1601 is an error of too many user connections being used. Windows 2000 pro has a very limited number of connections, I don’t know how many, but when we set up a win2k pro box in the R&D dept at work we were always running out. Win2k server allows a lot more connections.

Are outside users logging into your computer?
