I kid you not, that’s really the chyron.
It was all Keith Olberman could do not to bust into hysterical laughter on the air, at the absurdity of making this breaking news.

Shayna, I believe you have been well & truly wooshed.
Do you watch Olbermann regularly? It was part of Oddball - they were getting live coverage from LA, but Keith wasn’t reporting it as a REAL story.
I do, but I came into this episode late. He keeps mentioning the bear and wondering if we need an update. They had a helicopter shooting video of the bear scratching its butt on a tree, then going for a walk. It really was hilarious.
Bear wandering. Police in pursuit.
Lmfao!
Well as long as it wasn’t wearing lipstick . . .
This raises all sorts of news coverage issues, and you know how fascinating I find those. The question here is, do you really need to pursue something that’s only “wandering?” Pursuit, to me, implies a certain amount of urgency and orientation toward a specific goal. That doesn’t fit with the relaxed connotations of “wandering.” Maybe MSNBC could’ve chosen its words more carefully. Some suggestions for next time:
Bear ambling. Police stay close.
Ursine meanders. Cops on the trail.
Fuzzy wuzzy mozies. Lawmen follow apace.
Kodiak takes a hike. Thin blue line hot on foot.
Woodland menace roams free. John Law watches warily.
Animal that shits in the woods takes a stroll. Boys in blue keep their distance.
BREAKING NEWS!!
Bear Scratching Its Back on a Tree
I laughed so loud I began to worry I was disturbing other hotel residents. The look on his face as he reported was priceless.
this is why i love watching mr olbermann. he has a way with news that really isn’t news, or shouldn’t be news.
i gotta admit i’d rather see the slow speed bear chase than 24 hours of pig and lipstick debate.
i was hoping ms maddow would do a follow up at the end of her show. perhaps mr olbermann will give us and update tonight.
