Hi Guys,
MST 3000 re-runs are on Comet TV on Sunday night twice starting at 8 PM.
No Comet TV in my state.
I’ve got the Comet channel at my lake house place where I spend the week; it just showed up a few weeks ago. Fortunately I arrive Sunday evening so I can catch one of the episodes.
They seem to be a mixture from both the Joel and Mike eras, which can be disorienting. The audio quality is fine, but the episodes run for 2-1/2 hours, with plenty of ten-minute long commercial breaks. Ugh!
I’ve noticed some pretty egregious cuts as well–most of all in tonight’s showing of I Accuse My Parents. They cut a whole “act” out of it–including the whole beginning and setup of the movie! The short ended, they went to commercial break…and we returned from the commercial to a scene some five minutes into the movie! No opening credits, no nothing! Lord knows how anyone seeing this episode for the first time is following it.
ETA: Okay, THIS is weird. They just showed the same “act” twice in a row! Whoever’s in charge of the broadcast seems to be asleep at the switch. It looks as if they showed the second “act” (and by that, I mean the segment between commercial breaks) in place of what should have been the first one–and then showed it AGAIN.
No links, but MST3K episodes are just amazingly easy to find on YouTube, so if Comet’s botching this syndication, it’s screwing up even worse than it might be otherwise.
For those, like me, who’ve never heard of it: Comet’s another of those digital-subchannel-only TV networks, like Me TV (which I can receive), which only exists on the “extra” channels digital broadcasting gave to TV transmitters. The upside is that they’re so low-budget they run interesting obscurities just to fill time; the downside is that they’re so low-budget that, apparently, sometimes quality seriously slips. (“We got it all on UHF!”)
Oh well. In twenty years (over the final time horizon for the broadcast media business) none of this will exist in the same way, and we’ll be complaining about Internet streams some geek from Mogadishu’s running out of their bedroom.
