am i the only one who misses comedy centrals "turkey day"

In which it was nothing but 12 hours of mst3k on thanksgiving …

I remember annoying the relatives with it the first year they did it because they wanted to know "who the smartasses on the screen who wouldn’t shut up and quit ruining the movie was " when they walked in the middle of the ep…

Then when they caught the next episode a lot of the younger ones got it …

But it was my thanksgiving tradition until cc dropped mst3k and I dropped them …

Enjoy!

That’s a little amusing, since Pluto already has a 24/7 MST3K channel. Pretty much the only reason why the Pluto app is even on my Roku.

But it is a nice little nostalgia nod to all the MSK3K fans who grew up with Comedy Central.

The MST3K site adds new footage of the guys introducing movies and so forth. It’s pretty cool.

you know I asked mike nelson in a chat about why mst3k isn’t on Netflix or a series box disc set and apparently they don’t have the rights to about half the movies they used anymore …also some of the people that made/ were in in the movies weren’t happy …

He did have a funny story tho apparently there was a young lady that was in a sf “turd” in the 60s and came up to him in a convention and thank him for putting to words what she always thought of it and she was a hero to her grandkids because they used her movie and according to him had funnier things to say about it and the people than they did

only reason she did it was a quick 150 for 3 days and she needed it …

There was a great thread a few years back where someone reviewed every episode of MST3K in order, but I’m not having any luck finding it.

I used to love the Turkey Day marathons. I’d sneak downstairs way early to watch as much as I could before guests came over and the TV got switched to the Macy’s parade and football.

They did have selected episodes on Netflix until… I wanna say about a year ago, give or take a few months. Apparently they did have the rights to those, so there’s still a question of why they got yanked (‘Flix wouldn’t pay enough? they had another way to make money off of them? anything’s better than "we dont’ have rights to some".) None of the ones they did have were the controversial rights ones like the Godzilla ones that had to be pulled from the box sets.

Oh to the actual topic of the thread…

Comcast didn’t carry CC in our area until after they’d canceled MST3k. Still saw some in reruns there before they started up on SciFi, but my main exposure to vintage MST3k was their syndicated hour long two parter versions. No Turkey Day, though at that point I wouldn’t have been likely to see it anyway being off to Grandma’s for the day. I sure would have loved it, though.

The thread where CandidGamera watched every episode is here. It took 3 years.

The website I believe also has a popup version where every joke is explained. Rather than ruin the jokes, I find it makes them funnier–as long as it’s a joke I didn’t get–which happens a lot more than I’d like to admit.

Thank you!

They’re releasing the episodes on the Rifftrax site now. New/old episode every Monday with Mike, Bill, or Kevin doing a brief intro. I’d link it, but I’m at work right now.

I’m old enough I remember watching it on The Comedy Channel, before it and Ha! merged into Comedy Central.

Home now. Here’s the link.
