Mstery Science Theater - no longer aired? Period?

Does anyone know of any stations, any at all, that rerun MST3K?

I just did some searching, and it doesn’t look like Comedy Central, Sci-Fi, or any other cable stations are showing them anymore.

I’m thinking of getting some DVD sets, but still… I’d just love to see them on television again.

Does anyone know of any stations that are showing them right now, or are planning on showing them again in the future?

Ah crap. The title is, of course, “Mystery”, not “Mstery”.

Occasionally, I have found it to be “misery” during portions of flat and/or non-existant dialogue.

Unfortunately, according to the official site (which you may have already seen), they’re not being broadcast any longer, with the last dates of broadcast being over a year ago (at the ungodly hour of 9 a.m.).

Yeah, the SciFi channel had the rights to the last few seasons and were showing reruns up until about a year ago, when they decided it was no longer worth the money to keep showing the last few reruns. It’s unlikely to be picked up anywhere else, because (A) stations generally aren’t interested in two hour long series, and (B) getting rights to the shows can be a nightmare, since the movies are still owned by the original studios, which have to give their permission.

This also makes it quite difficult to purchase official DVD or VHS copies of the episodes. There were some tape-trading groups awhile back though.

Still are.

Well da-yum.

I’ve been perusing the DVD sets, has anyone bought any of these? Any recommendations for a Joel-lover? I understand each set is mixed with Joel on some and Mike on some. I don’t hate Mike, don’t get me wrong, I just love Joel. My favourites were the Steve Reeves Hercules ones (I loved “DEEP HURTING!”), one with an Alf-like Alien named Trumpy, any of the Gamera vs Whoever… I haven’t seen too many shorts (except for the Gumby one), and by the sounds of it I should really see Mr. B Natural.

It looks like there are about 7 sets out now (or the 7th one will be out like, Tuesday), can anyone recommend a few of them to start?

I miss me some MST3K. :frowning:

From the looks of it all the new ones on Tuesday are Joel ones.

Never could get into Joel. I just found it distracting that he was so drunk all the time.

Oddly enough, when Joel was the host, a lot of the fan mail from women mentioned that his “sleepy” delivery was what they liked.

Joel has his good points, but I’m a Mike guy.

I’m not trying to turn this into a debate over who is better than who, I’m just a fan of Joel, and I wanted some recommendations. Mike’s funny, too, I don’t reject him from my soul and spurn him into the depths of hell.

Myself, my father, and my brother all prefer Joel, but it probably has a lot more to do with the fact that he was the first guy we saw, and we grew to love MST3K based on that, so when Mike came in, hell, he might have been better, but he wasn’t Joel. We’re tainted.

Looks like I’ll be picking up the 7th set, for sure.

Even though I have all the shows, I still buy the box sets, if only to show continued support for the show.

Volume 6 is also all-Joel: Teenagers from Outer Space, Attack of the Giant Leeches, Gunslingers, and Mr. B’s Lost Shorts (which may have a couple Mike interludes, I don’t recall).

Drunk? Cite, please?

I don’t think he was ever drunk. That was just his delivery style. He made four appearances on SNL and was the same way.

I never, ever thought Joel was drunk on the show.
I always assumed he was stoned.

Yeah, his delivery reminds me of a drunk person, and there are times during the host segments that it seems like he’s hanging onto that counter in front of him as if he really does need it to stay up.

So, sometimes it seems like he’s drunk to me, and it’s distracting. That’s what I meant to say. But it’s mostly during the host segments, and he seems more together during the movies themselves.

End hijack, and BTW, Gunslinger is a great Joel 'sode, and I think that’s in box set #6.

Considering the dialogue is so tightly timed, he has to be.

It’s amazing how many people think the comments are ad-libbed. They did an amazing job.

They were brilliant…it’s sad to see them go.

In the most recent interview with Mike, he was asked about a reunion show. While he said there were no plans, it would not be ruled out.

A really cool idea would be to have everybody come back and do a segment. They’d have to do a long movie (Titanic was always a movie they’d wanted to do), but it’d be great.
