I am shocked beyond belief that kielbasa and sauerkraut received but one vote (mine).
mmm

Watermelon & feta salad

Not my favorite, but it is good.

Chili on a baked potato.

Burger & fries

Bacon & eggs

Ham & cheese sandwich with soup

Theme song for the thread.

OK, folks, I’m going to start carving soon.

Unless things change, this is what our monument will look like:

Burger and fries
Bacon and eggs
Peanut butter and jelly
Fish and chips
Looks perfect to me.
mmm

You forgot my favorite, chicken and dumplings.

I voted shrimp and grits, burger and onion rings, something else and other, which was seasoned, seared foie gras perched atop a brioche and glazed with pineapple gastrique and served with a Sauternes.

Didn’t see that one on there.

Two terrible things made even worse by being paired.

Greeks and Bulgarians, for one. I was introduced to it by my wife’s family. There’s nothing like nibbling cubes of watermelon and feta cheese and drinking ouzo, on a warm Mediterranean summer afternoon.

Voted in the poll.

Voted other for chili & baked potato.

I learned about it here a few years ago. It was a life changing moment. I would have never thought to pair those together.

Add some shredded cheese and sour cream. Yum

I am surprised at the hate for cake and ice cream. Double yum.

Also, I missed baked potato and sour cream, another classic pairing.
mmm

(From that Rutles classic animated movie, “Yellow Submarine Sandwich” :D)

Apples & peanut butter is my favorite.

We need some enchiladas & refried beans on this list. And churros & chocolate.

Have you ever put baked beans on fried chicken? Or put BBQ sauce on rice, or put sour cream on meatloaf?

This list is not comprehensive.

Looks like pulykamell and I are the only ones so far who picked “chicken paprikash and galuska”. I am pretty sure that this is only because none of the rest of you have ever had chicken paprikash and galuska. Otherwise it would be leading the poll by a huge margin.

I wanted to select that and only didn’t because I’m vegetarian. One of my favorite treats is paprikás made with Quorn naked “chik’n” cutlets and homemade nökedli. Even though making nökedli is a serious PITA because I lack the proper equipment. But yeah, I’ve really been going to town on Hungarian tofu goulash and Quorn paprikás lately. I usually make homemade egg pasta to go with the goulash, but last time made it with nökedli and that was sooooo good.

All of them except chicken fried steak and fish and chips.
