Muddy handed truck buyer

There was (is?) a recent commercial for some truck where the buyer ran his hand over the muddy hood prior to shaking the salesman’s hand. The salesman did the same. Can anyone explain to me what that meant? Why would they do that

It’s a Chevy commercial. I assumed it was something akin to making them blood brothers, just in a ‘Carhartt’ sort of way. Maybe someone has additional insight into it but that’s all I took away from it.

What lieu said.

Less painful than slicing your palms and more sanitary than spitting on them.

I see it being related to boys spitting in their palms before shaking hands to make a pact. That is directly akin to the old Native American custom of cutting the palm (created by Hollywood) before shaking hands to make a pact.

Trucks are rugged, so are men, therefore buy this truck. You won’t find too many puppies in those commercials, full grown hunting dogs, maybe.

Ad would have been better with sand in the bed along with girls clad in bikinis drinking cheap beer. Sells to the target demographic.

beer + truck = babes. Profit.

I think that the commercial implies that they had just completed a test drive that was so off-road that they both ended up covered with mud.

That’s how I interpreted it (and yes, the mud comes from the test drive they just took). However I opened this thread because I thought I though the OP was watching a movie and heard “muddy handed truck buyer” as a dubbed substitute for some profanity.

“muddy handed truck buyer”

I thought he was quoting lyrics from I am the Walrus.

No, they were sitting in the cab and are perfectly clean. The truck is covered with mud. The customer is so enthused and ready to buy, he wipes his hand on the muddy hood and holds it out. The seller realizes his cue, and follows suit.

It’s the same seller who was sitting in the truck wearing a cowboy hat and getting chided by his fellow employees “We let Chevy Trucks sell Chevy.” Aw, shucks, I would never wear chaps and spurs. Sneaks away in chaps and spurs.

It’s definitely intended to invoke spitting on the palms to seal a deal. Except it’s Chevy offroad blood/spit.

My wife asked me the same question.
I had to explain the whole “blood brothers” meme to her. I guess it’s a guy thing.

I figured that’s what it meant. They’re “mud brothers” not blood brothers. As for it being a guy thing, probably, but my best childhood friend and I cut our fingers and became blood sisters. We were very serious about it at the time.

My son asked me the same question. When I explained it he said “that makes no sense at all”, which I couldn’t argue.

I means that there is probably a couple hundred dollars of damage that a detailer will have to polish out of it.

That was my thought, too. “Hey, buddy, thanks for scratching the crap outta the paint.”
