Muh Mail don't werk!!

Got home this morning, fired up the pc (Dell 4550 series, 2.0 GHz Pentium 4 running Windows XP Home: more details on request) on dial-up connection. Got a couple of messages at this point: Automatic Update has new updates to install. Click here to load updates. Also Norton Anti-Virus may not be updated. Click here to update.

Did both, Automatic Update finished first, advising me to restart computer. I waited until Norton had finished, upon which it also advised the same thing. I clicked OKAY on Norton, then clicked OKAY on AU. The computer shut down, and came back up without a visible glitch.

However, once I’d reconnected to the Internet (dial-up through Earthlink via Opera), and tried to access my email (Outlook Express…yes, I know I should find something better…suggestions are welcome, especially NOW, which may admittedly be too late),…sorry, that’s a long sentence…when I try to get to my email NOW, I get the following error messages:

They come up together. I can neither send nor receive email at this point. I CAN go through webmail and get to my email on the Earthlink server, but I can’t get it to come to my pc.

I’ve tried rebooting altogether, and it doesn’t seem to help any.

I will freely admit that I am not up to speed on all the intricacies of this stuff, so please feel free to point and laugh.

I’d really like to know how to fix this, though.

If it helps, I hadn’t (until now, when I presume I have) downloaded Service Pack 2 for WinXP yet…precisely for this reason: every time I download updates, things quit working the way they used to, and I have to figure them out all over again.

This has proven to be no exception.

Anybody wanny he’p a schlub?

P’ease?

Try setting up email in opera.
