Anyone else notice when you hear that distinct Nextel “bleep” in public, odds are the person responding is a guy with a mullet.
Yeah, this is very pointless. Might have well posted “all your base” or “you are the weakest link, goodbye,” but my brain fed me the aforementioned thought. Sorry.
Nextel cell phones feature patented instant two way radio communication -aka “walky talky” ™.
When you hit/release the talk button, a bleep -or more appropriately a “chirp”- is sent out to the person you are radioing. It helps each user understand that the other peron is done talking, so that there is no talkover. When you hear the chirp, you are being notifed that a user is contacting you. When you are done holding the talk button, a chirp tells your buddy you stopped talking. Many radios use static-type sounds for the same thing, but Nextel made it a formal chirp.
Because of the two-way radio feature of these phones, many security companies, contractors, as well as business folks use these phones. They are used widely used by blue collar workers, who - maybe stereotypically or not - tend to sport mullets with greater frequency than other folks.
Mullets are hair-do’s (hair don’ts?) that feature short hair on top and long hair in back. Very Jerry Springer guest-ish.
I’ve heard the mullet haircut described as “business on top and a party down the back.” We used to call it a “Kentucky Waterfall.” The really awful ones are short and severe - even gelled - on top and the long part is actually permed down the back. Eeech. Interestingly enough, these haircuts are favored by really macho redneck guys and some lesbians (I always wonder if the macho guys ever notice this connection).
The name “mullet” apparently comes from the Paul Newman movie, “Cool Hand Luke,” but I haven’t seen it lately and I can’t imagine they had mullets back then?? Guess I need to rent this movie again. - Jill
I’ve got a mullet. Yes I do.
They’re giving them to anyone, and that means you.
You can drive to Buffalo and get one too.
And then you’ll have a mullet, like I do.
My uncle and his brother both have those Nextels. No mullets. I actually think the phones are pretty cool. They run a roofing/construction business, so they actually have a reason to own them. My two cents.
is there a mullet craze right about now? Like these silly webpages about mullets and such. For example, the peviously quote “Mullets Galore” or when ever I sign on to AOL there are a bunch o links and such (y’all know what I’m talkin bout, the ones one the Welcome screen). Something like every three weeks, one of these links is to this really lame webpage about Mullets. I’m just sittn here thinkin, damn what a waste of time…
